Scott was totally and completely ready for anything that came his way. Except spiders.
"Fucking hell spider!" Scott shouted swatting his hands in front of his face "back off little demons!" He demanded swatting at the web
Helaena moved forward gracefully and she nudged the spider away.
"Wow... that was embarrassing." Scott admitted. "Sorry about that."
"I love insects."
"I love ants but not spiders those fuc-fudgers give me the utter creeps."
"Extra eyes and legs yes i can see why they scare people." Helaena confirmed as they walked.
"Standard-bearers to the front! Packhorses to the rear! Clear way for the mounted knights..." The captain of the guard shouted out.
"Lord Commander. Your host is mustered and ready to march." a squire told criston.
"People. Not bad ass dragons like you." Scott agreed
"I don't think i have ever been called that before." Helaena admitted.
"It was meant as a compliment." Scott added quickly
"Bad ass." She repeated.
"Not like your ass is bad. Its a cute ass. Bot that i have seen it but... its like-"
"You arent acting bad ass right now scott." Helaena teased.
"He enjoys battle." Gwayne realized.
"I'm glad we're together, even briefly." Alicent offered before moving to criston. "Ser Criston. May I present my brother, Ser Gwayne Hightower, arrived last night from Oldtown."
"Ser Criston. Or mayhaps I should say, my lord Hand?" Gwayne answered.
"Ser Gwayne, welcome to King's Landing."
"How exhilarating to arrive at court after three long months on the road to find my lord father, who served three kings faithfully, unseated as Hand of the King. And by a man from such modest beginnings." Gwayne added. "What a giddying ascent the gods have bestowed on you."
"Who is that speaking with my mother?" Helaena asked. Scott followed her gaze.
"Lets see well he is from old town. And is wearing the hightower sigil so maybe her brother your uncle."
"That's a very observant guess." Helaena noted
"I'm your guard i have to be paying attention to detail." Scott agreed
"Except for noticing you were walking into a spider web." Helaena agreed. "You know they take forever to make their webs, you caused that spider a great inconvenience." Scott gaped back at her."Maybe Mr Spider shouldnt have put his home where it would have been walked through." Scott countered.
"Ser Gwayne has volunteered to accompany you into battle." Alicent added.
"We have a full complement, Your Grace." Criston corrected.
"Then you shall have a fuller one." Alicent agreed.
"The march will be hard, Ser." Criston warned.
"No one is more delighted than I to march out to war with a Dornishman." He added turning to Alicent and kissing her hand. "Sister."
"I was distracted by the queen, how was I supposed to be focused on the incoming spider web?" Scott questioned. Helaena blinked back at him. "You. The queen." He clarified. She sometimes forgot she was the queen now. "I was distracted by you." he added to make things more awkward. "I'm going to stop talking."
"Lang!"
"Oh no, thats me.'' Scott turned to Helaena. "WIll you excuse me but a moment?"
"Of course, I will be right here." Helaena agreed.
"I'm not leaving." Scott told Clint. "I have my duty here with the queen. I can't-"
"I dont want you coming, you would get yourself killed pissing off Cole and he's already in a mood." Clint assured.
"Oh good." Scott agreed.
"I just wanted to check in."
"Everything is great." Scott nudged him away. "Bye!"
"You and... your new knight getting on alright?" Alicent asked.
"Oh he's wonderful." Helaena agreed.
"He makes you smile again."
"He does." Helaena realized. "It's nice to smile but... I think I feel bad about it to." she added as they walked, Scott was quick to chase after them, tipping his head to Alicent.
"YOu feel bad about smiling?" ALicent questioned.
"Because I still feel sad about Jaehaerys. Mm, but I ought not to, I think." Helaena admitted she added as scott pushed open her chamber door for them. "People die all the time, especially babes. They're so little, s-so they're taken so easily." Scott wanted to hug her but knew his place so he stood at the corner of the room where Jaehaera had appeared smiling up at him. PUlling on his arm, he knelt beside her.
"Sadness is a condition of motherhood." Alicent answered glancing to Jaehaera.
"There's naught to be gained from it." Helaena countered. "That horrid procession where the smallfolk all stared at me." Helaena recalled. "I warrant they thought I had no more right to grief than they do. Surely they lose their babes more than highborn ladies."
"I wanted cookies." Jaehaera whispered.
"I love cookies." Scott agreed.
"Can we get cookies... together?" Jaehaera whispered. "Now?"
"Well let me check with your mama first." Scott countered. "See if she wants any." Jaehaera nodded running to helaena.
"The Stranger comes for us all... queen and commoner. You have as much claim to grief as anyone." Alicent assured.
"And you?" Helaena asked putting Jaehaera in her lap.
"I loved Jaehaerys, but my concern has been more for you and what you have endured. Uh, Helaena, I..."
" I forgive you."
"What?"
"I said that I forgive you."
Scott wondered as he turned his cheek what there was to forgive.
