"Scott Lang your grace." Barton urged him forward. Scott stared. Unflinching. Helaena and the children had been pried from his grip. He was furious but helaena kissed his cheek telling him to be brave. He should have been telling her that.

He knew he should have been begging for his life for he was too worried about helaena and the children. Little Morghul was roaming the castle unseen. Maybe if he found the dragon... he was a baby. He couldnt do much damage. Scott was grasping at straws.

"I heard you sent Aemond face first into the dirt." Rhaenyra remarked.

"SOmething like that. He was hurting, Helaena." Scott answered.

"Your queen?"

He knew it was a trick question. He knew it was a trick. Yes Helaena was his queen but if he wanted to survive to get her out of that cell then he had to act like she was just another woman, another person he was assigned to protect, even if Barton knew Helaena was so much more to Scott.

"Helaena is a princess, she never wanted to be queen. I was her guard. After the attack on her sons, you can see why she needed extra protection." Scott pushed. "We didnt know what you or Daemon were capable of."

"I had no part in the death of Jaehaerys." Rhaenyra corrected. Scott nodded.

"Helaena said it was Daemon." he confirmed. "But he is your mad dog."

"Are you going to be problem Scott?"

"He's a loyal fucker, he's just gotten close with the young prince and princess, your grace. He is worried about the kids. jaehaera and Maelor." Barton cut in. Rhaenyra nodded.

"They have nothing to fear from me."

"And what of your husband?" Scott challenged

"Dont push Lang." Barton demanded.

"Helaena doesnt want the crown. She liked her life before she was queen and before she married aegon." Dig yourself a hole scott. Yep. "She doesnt need to be in a cell."

"I cant let her go either." Rhaenyra corrected. "Ser laurent. Assess the men. I trust your judgment."

"Yes your grace."

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen seized the Iron Throne, though many lords noted she cut herself upon the throne, starting rumors that the throne had rejected her. Just like her father before her cuts littered her arms.

Everyone remembered how aegon lounged on the throne, as if it was the comfiest seat in the world   It made them think maybe aegon was the chosen ruler.

At first it seemed the population of the city had welcomed Rhaenyra's ascent to the Iron Throne as Aegon II and Prince Aemond Targaryen had not been much loved. But scott knew what was coming.

Scott had been a dutiful knight for 2 days before he once again begged that the princess helaena, the quens half sister be shown the decency of a real bed. She wasnt a criminal she was a mother and her children didnt deserve this. He asked again on the third and fourth and fifth.  On the sixth day rhaenyra agreed. Scott was quick to leave the execution making his way through the castle with haste. with more executions happening daily and more taxes being raised to fund the wars, the population began to loathe Rhaenyra, calling her King Maegor with teats.

Scott knew his head would be on the chopping block next but he had to get to helaena and the children. Morghul ran up to him chasing his shadow.

"Lets go get our girls." Scott told the little dragon. He gave a mighty little roar in agreement.

"Dont do anything stupid, Lang." Barton demanded

"Im just bringing the princess to her chambers as instructed."

"You love her." That stopped scott. He turned to his commanding officer.

"I do."

"Love makes people stupid." Barton warned

"Havent you ever loved someone so much you would risk everything?" Scott countered nudging the dragon behind the bannister.

"I lost her." Barton admitted.

"I cant let her die here. Down in that cell. She needs a chance. Im going to give her that chance." Scott demanded. "I need to see her. Shes all I got. I cant let her sit in that cell a moment longer."

What scott didnt say was he had been searching the tunnels in his spare time and found one that lead to the pits. Lead to dreamfyre. Scott had gotten the dragon saddled with much difficulty just that morning in hopes that rhaenyra would finally say yes and release helaena from the cells.

Alicent brought this on herself. She could rot. But helaena was innocent. Helaena was the love of his life.

Barton was right and he was wrong. Loves makes people stupid. But it also makes people strong. Makes people dangerous.

Scott was going to make sure helaena and her children got the happily ever after they deserved.
