𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝐋𝐄𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅—
Wrapped up in blankets that weren't hers, in sheets she didnt regonize, and a room she had only been in once."How are you feeling?" A voice asked, Kassian leaned against the door frame, playing with the end of one of his old shirts.
"Fine." She glanced around his room, warily as if Kassian would kick her out again, "I didnt mean to barge in or anything last night—"
"You didnt." He said quickly, sucking in a deep breath. He crossed his arms over his chest, keeping his distance from May Lee.
"Ok." She nodded, not being able to keep the corners of her mouth from turning upwards.
"What?" Kassian let out a soft laugh, "what are you smiling about?"
"Nothing." May Lee's smile grew, and then it faded, "Kass?"
Kassian's breath caught in his throat, his eyes flickering towards her.
"Why'd you kick me out?"
"It was for the best." Was all he said, his shoulders sinking, as May Lee got up from her spot on the bed.
"And now?"
Kassian licked his lips shrugging, "we should still keep her distance— I let you stay the night becuase I didnt want you walking home alone, not with all the peacekeepers flocking around. It wont hapoy again."
May Lee scoffed, "are you being seriouse? Kassian you cant keep shutting me out, we were best friends."
"Yeah we were, but that was then." Said Kassian, "it wont benifit either of us, if we stick around eachother."
"No, its only beniffiting you." She said harshly, "Dont fucking turn your back on me and say its for the best, becuase we both know its just you being a coward. You promised me, you'd never leave. You said when you got back from the games you were going to be there, with me—" May Lee froze as Kassian pushed her against the wall with a loud thud.
"You dont get it do you? Im doing this to protect you!" His breath was hot and heavy, hitting May Lee in the face during his spurts of angry words.
"Well I dont need protecting!" May Lee snapped, trying to shove his hands away, but they only pushed her back against the wall.
"Yes you do!" Kassian yelled, his voice firm. "Im not letting you die, becuase I say the wrong thing, or if I dont do exactly what snow wants— im scared of losing you, May Lee. I wont put you in danger!"
"And what if I dont care?" Her eyes locked with his, Kassian tried to figure out wether or not she was just saying that, but her face only showed the cariness he always knew of her.
"What?" He asked, his voice had become softer now, like he didnt know if he had heard her.
"What if I dont care about being put in danger, if it means im with you— what would you say then?"
Kassian broke out into a smile, a chuckle escaping his lips. "I'd say you have a death wish."
"Ok—"
"May Lee, my siblings died becuase of me." He glanced over her face, his fingers trailing down her arms, "I've killed people."
"It doesnt change anything." She said quietly, her hand intertwining with his.
Kassian couldnt hold himself back any longer, presssing his lips against hers, he took slow steps back, away from the wall as he tugged on May Lee's hips, his lips still locked on hers. "Your insane."
"I know." She giggled, as the back of kassian's knees hit the edge of his bed. He fell back, onto his elbows.
Kassian looked up at May Lee, who stood there smiling. "What, getting cold feet May?"
"Not a chance." May Lee leaned over him, reconncting their lips.
Kassian knew he had lost it as soon as he saw May Lee at his front doorstep, he couldnt hold himself back from being with her any longer, it was a constant battle between himself, where he was trying to avoid her. He just wanted her to be safe, he wanted her to live the life he could never have, and he couldnt provide her with that, not with snow constantly watching him, and certaintly not with the nights he had to be at in the capital, where snow sold him as he seemed desirable. It would be like constantly walking on eggshells, but May Lee didnt seem to care, and now Kassian didnt either.
"Morning Kass?" Rylen peeked through his front door, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
Kassian flashed him a smile, handing over a basket of food, "I figured its time I delievered a peace treaty."
Rylen nodded, letting the door swing open so Kassian could come inside. The place was dirty, and barely had any furniture, besides the two mattreses on the floor of the house. There was a half eaten loaf of bread on the counter, that was probally stale from the amount of time it had been there, but Kassian had been in that position long enough that he knew it was probally their only food they had. Kassian felt guilty for leaving them like this for so long, he had let them starve, while he was living in luxary.
"Is that Kassian?" A head poked out from the back door, it was Judai, the youngest siblings of May lee's family. He had soft curly hair that coiled by his ears, and bright blue eyes that made anyone melt just by looking at him.
"Hey buddy." Kassian smiled as Judai jumped on Kassian.
Rylen scowled, "easy Judia, your going to get Kass's jacket all dirty— That thing probally costs more than you."
Rylen grabbed onto one of the cloths, that was probally dirtier than Judia's hands itself, but he still wiped them off."Its alright, I dont mind." Kassian ruffled Judais head, as the boy bounced back towards the basket.
"Ooh goodies!" He cheered, pulling out a cookie from the basket. "Look! Rye its a cookie, i havnt had one of these since you let me pick one out of the garbage last month!"
"Your not supposed to tell people that!" Rye sighed, watching Judai nibble on the cookie. He couldnt help but smile, ignoring the rumbling of his own stomache.
"You need to eat too, Rylen." Kassian said, "I'll you guys anything you need—I swear." Kassian reached into the pocket of his jacket and pulled out moeny, handing it over to Rylen.
Rylen froze, "We cant take this, man."
"Im not giving you a choice." Kassian laughed, "Ive abandoned you guys for the last year or so, let me make up for it. Please."
"Thank you."
