One of the fifth years, Frank Longbottom, was throwing a Halloween party.
It was supposed to be for Gryffindors only, however most of them had invited their friends.

Fourth years were the youngest ones allowed to join in as they were somewhat responsible compared to the younger students.

It wasn't a costume party per se, however many of the students decided that they would need to at least dress nicely for the occasion.

Which is exactly what Ava was doing.
She had begged Artemis to go with her, Emma had already agreed to stay for an hour but she knew Emma would leave sooner than that.
Artemis reluctantly agreed however refused to buy some ridiculous costume.

The two girls decided to go to a boutique in Hogsmede. It wasn't a bridal shop or anything fancy but it sold clothes they were willing to be seen in.

Artemis had chosen something Simple. A black dress, with off the shoulder sleeves with a slit on her left leg.
It was a nice dress, but nothing compared to those of the ones she had seen at her family balls.

Ava on the other hand had decided to go for something more informal. She had gone for a black, off the shoulder long sleeve dress, however the dress ended just above her knees. Both girls had a pair of black heels on and had made up their faces for the occasion.

Artemis had decided on a silver necklace and her favourite silver rings.
Ava on the other hand preferred gold, she had small gold earrings in the shape of the sun and a gold necklace in the same shape.

The three girls walked together, almost linking arms was they excitedly hurried to the Gryffindor common room.

They didn't know the password so they waited for one of the Gryffindors to open the hatch.
"Oh hello ladies, come on in" Frank Longbottom kept the portrait open for them, ever the gentleman he was.

The second the three entered the room they were hit with the sound of laughing, talking and music. It was tremendous, Ava was never fond of huge groups. However all the people in this room were lovely people.

"Arty? You came?!" Sirius cheered, running towards his cousin with open arms which were quickly met with the body of - well, it doesn't matter because Artemis didn't know his name- some Gryffindor boy who had been sacrificed.

"Moony, Prongs- where's wormtail?!- come say hello"
Sirius seemed unusually chipper this evening.
"Sirius are you alright?" Ava reached out to pat his shoulder, making sure he wasn't having some form of stroke.

"I'm great! Never been better!" Ava cringed as she smelt his breath.
"Sirius have you been drinking?"
The girl got no verbal response- instead Sirius simply giggled... he didn't laugh, he giggled.

Soon Sirius was pulled back by a calloused hand, a hand Ava knew all to well.
"Remus there you are! We've been looking for you!"
Sirius turned round and began to cling to his friend like a koala.
Remus raised his eyebrows and didn't know what to do with himself as his friend began to squeeze him.

"Prongs come fix him!" Remus whisper shouted to his friend who was seemingly no where to be found.
"Remus relaxxx, it's not like I'll watch!" Sirius hissed, cupping his friends face in his hands.
"Watch what?" Remus asked.
"You talking to other people, it feels like you're cheating on me with new friends."

Remus sighed, resorting to pulling his friends arms from around him and spinning him round, judging him towards the sofa james and lily where perched on.

"Wait are you here alone?" Remus inquired.
"What no- Artemis and Emma are right he-"
Artemis and Emma in fact... had vanished.
"Oh your friends? Yes the one with black hair left after she came in and the one with red hair went over there." Longbottom pointed towards the area Sirius was now stood. Ava could just about make out her friends hair.

"Well it seems like I am alone" Ava laughed, subconsciously moving closer to Remus due to the force of people crowding round everywhere.
"Do you want to go outside for a minute? It's very loud" Ava suggested, Remus -thankful that she wanted the quiet aswell- nodded and took the lead, slightly nudging people out of his way.

However something caught his eye just before he made it to the portrait.
Some seventh year was wearing a werewolf costume and was pretending to maul other students.
Remus felt his heart sink, was this what people really found funny? Mocking other peoples afflictions?

Since he had stopped in his tracks, Ava had pushed her way infront of him, choosing to grab him by the hand and pull him through the door herself.
He looked like a deer in the headlights, swaying side to side in a daze.

Ava began to worry he was going to be sick- after all if Sirius had been drinking then why wouldn't Remus have been drinking- so she guided him slowly to a hallway which was thankfully empty.
Filch had been here not too long ago so she had some time to spare.
She took the still very dazed Remus to a window perch and pushed his shoulders lightly.

She waved her hand infront of his face, becoming increasingly more worried for her friend.
"Remus, it's alright- if you're going to be sick tell me and I'll clean it up".

Remus snapped out of it, taking a second to realise where he actually was. He hadn't even realised the soft voice coming from his side, he slowly turned his head to be met with Ava, staring at the floor.

"I'm alright, thank you."
He exhaled deeply, great full for her eternal patience and the fresh air.
"What was bothering you?"
Ava reached her hand to sit atop of his, hoping to comfort him enough to prevent whatever was imminent.

"It's nothing- honestly I think I was over whelmed."
Ava knew something was wrong, however decided not to push him too far.

"Remus, if you ever want to tell me anything- you know I'm here."

The boy smiled at the red head, if only he could tell her his secrets. If only he knew how she would react, and if only he knew how to protect her.
