Christmas break was typically a joyous time for all the students of hogwarts, regardless of if they celebrated or not they got four weeks at home.

For Ava, Christmas break usually meant going home to see her family, spending time with her brothers children and having a huge family game night.
But this was different.

Considering the fact that her brothers youngest son Percy was a newborn and that hogwarts - being a school- was practically a breeding ground for germs, she wasn't allowed home.

For the first few hours she simply moped around, thinking of all the different games her family would be playing without her.

Only three members of teaching staff remained at Hogwarts over the Christmas break:
Dumbledore
McGonogall
Filch.
And only about twenty students remained, the majority of which were older students who decided stay to revise for their N.E.W.Ts .

Around noon on the first day, Ava was awoken by a knock at her door. That was strange- not many ravenclaws stayed at school over Christmas, and not many would go out of their way to talk to her.

She groaned as she rolled off her bed, being careful not to step on Gemini- who was snoring- or Pepper who was also sleeping sound on top of Gemini's left head.

"Hello? Who's there?" She wiped her face as she opened the door.
Once her eyes adjusted to the light outside her bedroom, she realised she was staring at the face of Remus Lupin.
He was two steps down from the door and yet she was still face to face with him, he stifled a laugh at her disgruntled appearance.

"Remus you're so early I'm not even dressed yet!"
The girl groaned again, ushering him inside the dorm and leaving him awkwardly standing in the middle of the room whilst she stepped into her open suitcase.

Remus felt too awkward to sit on her bed, however she had been gone for around five minutes so he decided to take a seat at the very end of her bed, almost hovering above the covers.

"There we go, now I look socially acceptable"
The girl smoothed down her outfit, stepping back out of the suitcase.

"So what'd you wanna do today?" Ava I inquired, jumping on the spot next to Remus, head falling back against the duvet.

Remus turned his body so that he could face her, enjoying the company of someone so much more lively than himself but not as obnoxious as his friends.

"Well, most of the Hogsmede shops are closed until after Christmas soo" she volted body to sit up, curly hair turning static from the friction with the covers.

"If you want we could go for a walk? Take Gemini out?" Remus gestured towards the snoozing dog.
Ava's lips formed a wide smile, nodding quickly.
"It's snowing too! My favourite weather"
Remus hadn't even noticed the change in weather since he entered the room, far too distracted to look out the windows.

"I'll go get her leads!" Ava began rummaging through a box under her bed, full of supplies she needed on hand and not inside the suitcase.

Ava emerged from under the bed holding two black collars and a leash, quickly placing them on the dogs necks.

Ava made a slow movement to place the sleeping niffler inside her robe pocket and reached for her winter coat.

"Remus do you have a coat?" Ava inquired midway through shrugging her jacket over her shoulders.
"Oh I left it in my dorm, I'll be fine it's not that cold."
Ava frowned at him.
"Let's just go to your dorm and get your coat you'll freeze to death!"

Remus held his hands up dejectedly
"I promise you I'll be more than fine"
Ava sighed, frustrated with his lack of cooperation.
"Your funeral"
Remus chuckled at her, following her around the room as she gathered various items.

"At least take this?" Ava held out a scarf to the boy, offering him a pleading stare.
"Fine" Remus took the scarf and begun to tie it around his neck.

" okay let's go before it gets dark" Ava grabbed Remus by the hand, pulling Gemini gently with the other hand as they made their way through the hallways.
Thankfully Filch wasn't roaming around the hallways due to the lack of students, meaning Gemini was free to roam.

"Where are we going to then?" Remus inquired, taking his mind off the vanilla like scent practically woven into the fabric of the scarf.

"I was thinking the black lake? I mean it's quite and peaceful, plus Gemini can be off leash"
Ava smiled up at him, trying not to laugh at his shivering face.

The pair began walking towards the lake, Remus subconsciously walking closer and closer to the redhead, trying to preserve body heat.

Ava bent down and unleashed Gemini, who took off running in circles around them, nudging the pair into eachother several times.

The two began walking around the lake, keeping a close eye on Gemini as they did so.
Remus began to shiver more than before, his lack of a coat obviously being uncomfortable.

"Remus I told you to get a coat"
Ava said, forcing a laugh from her chapped lips, however she couldn't bring herself to actually laugh seeing the state he was in.

Ava whistled and Gemini came running back to the two, Ava quickly leashed her, grabbed Remus by his frozen hand and began walking quickly back to the castle.

Remus barely even registered where they were going to because of his dazed state.
By the time the pair were back inside the castle Remus started to thaw, his hands still shook and when Ava touched them she felt like he could freeze her to death.

"Remus I know you said you were fine but you're not, come with me."
Ava saw the boy start to fumble his steps, so she placed her hand the highest she could reach around his midsection, steadying him.

She began making her way to the Ravenclaw dormitories.

In order to enter the Ravenclaw dorms you had to answer a puzzle.
"What can run but has no legs"
"A river" the red head whispered to the door which slid open.

She ushered the lumbering boy inside and lead him to the central fire place, adding more coal to the fire to make sure he was warm enough.

"Remus are you alright?" Ava sat on the floor next to him, absently running her hands through his frozen hair.

"Hmm" Remus groaned, his entire body was frozen and he looked half dead.
Ava disappeared for a second to gather a blanket for him, throwing it over his shoulders and tucking him in like her mother would do for her.

Later that evening when his temperature had returned to a normal heat, Remus groggily woke up.
Upon waking up the first things he noticed were that he wasn't in the Gryffindor common room- in fact it appeared he was in the Ravenclaw room instead.
He also felt a weight on his body, if felt like Sirius was in his animagus and making an attempt to wake him up.
Due to the sky being dark his only source of light was the crackling fire beside him, and he could barely make out what appeared to be soft orange blanket.
Upon closer inspection it was not in fact a blanket, it was Ava's hair.

She was sleeping soundly, head on his chest and legs between his ontop of the blanket.
His voice was caught in his throat, he didn't want to breathe too deeply as to not disturb her so he resorted to gently placing his hands next to his head.

This was going to be a nice four weeks

The second week in unfortunately for Remus, was the full moon.

He knew that over using wolfsbane wouldn't be good for him in the long run which is why he never really used it- if used too much eventually it would lose its effect- unless necessary.

Since the school grounds were so empty he decided that wolfsbane was the necessary precaution to take considering the small population of students in such a large place.

He told Ava that he was sick and didn't want her to catch it, she was very stubborn and almost forced her way into his dorm to comfort him.
However thankfully she gave in and allowed him to sneak off to the shrieking shack.
