I checked my watch and saw it was already 7:30pm. I knew the record store closed at 8pm, so I just hoped they wouldn't be too upset with me.
Soon I walked in and noticed there was only one other person inside the shop besides the worker behind the counter.
"Welcome in! Oh- Hi Y/N!" The worker enthusiastically greeted me. Part of me was glad this was the worker for tonight. They're usually very nice and sweet so I knew they wouldn't be upset I came in so close to closing time.
"Hi!" I greeted them back before beginning to search through the records.
I wasn't looking for anything too specific, although I do have a list of albums on my phone that I hope to get at some point in my life.
I walked around and looked through the different genres they had, searching for anything from my list.
I couldn't find anything, but there was one section I hadn't checked which is where the other person was looking around. I didn't want to invade his space, but the store closes in 15 minutes so it was now or never.
I started looking at the albums on the opposite end of where he was. After a few minutes, we had both made our way to the center of the section where they displayed albums on the wall that were rare or of higher value.
I stood there looking and noticed one of the records in the middle was one I've had the most trouble finding. It was on the expensive side, but who knows if I'd find it again.
As I reached out to grab it, another hand was also reaching out for it, causing us to bump hands.
"I'm sorry." I quickly apologized to the man.
"It's okay. You can have it." He said, gesturing for me to grab it.
"No you were here first, you take it." I said trying to hide the slight sadness in my voice but trying to be courteous anyways.
"Are you sure?" He asked with uncertainty in his voice.
"Yes I insist." I gave him smile.
"Okay, thank you." He said and giving a small bow before walking away with the album in his hand.
Once he was out of sight, I slumped a little bit, upset that I missed out on such a rare album. Ugh why did I have to be so nice? He literally offered it to me first.
I mentally face palmed, but at least I knew the record was going to someone who seemed like they would enjoy it as much as I would've.
I checked my watch and saw it was 5 minutes until closing. I quickly walked back to a different area and grabbed two records I had seen earlier. I was still sad I lost out, so I didn't want to walk out completely empty handed.
As I walked up to check out, I noticed that the man had already left the store.
"Is this all?" The worker asked while scanning my albums.
"Yes, thank you." I told them while looking for my wallet. After I paid and grabbed the bag from the worker, they stopped me.
"Oh! The other customer left this for you." They reached behind the counter and pulled out the album I had wanted to get earlier. "He paid for it and told me to give it to you. I think he also left a note on it somewhere."
I grabbed it from them, shocked that a complete stranger would do that.
"Thank you, have a good night." I told them before walking out of the store.
Once outside, I saw the sticky note on the back of the album that the worker was talking about.
Hope you enjoy this. Here's my number if you want to text.
As soon as I got home, I pulled out my phone and entered the number on the sticky note, ready to send them a thank you text.
Y/N
Hi! This is Y/N, I'm the person from the record store.
Unknown
Hi. I'm Vernon, also the person from the record store.
Y/N
Thank you for the record by the way, you didn't have to do that. I meant it when I said you should have it.
Vernon
I know, but I could tell you really wanted it. You seemed sad.
I face palmed, great I made him feel bad.
Y/N
I didn't mean to make you feel bad! If you want it I can meet up and give it to you.
Vernon
Don't worry about it I can find another one. We could always meet up still.
Y/N
Thank you Vernon. Yes! I need to pay you back
Vernon
That's not what I meant. I was trying to ask you out.
Y/N
Oh! Well I'd love to :)
Vernon
Cool. I'll see you soon then :)
He gave off some mysterious vibes, but he does seem like the type of person I want to be around. Maybe I should also find a record to gift him...
A little on the shorter side, but I tried to keep the vibes and everything similar to Vernon's actual mannerisms and such! What do y'all think?
