I laid on my side wondering what Bry was thinking. I bet she was thinking about that Australian kid. He probably feels lucky. Bry already likes that kid with that stupidly named guitar... He has everything, doesn't he? Bry doesn't like him. It's impossible... Who am I kidding, I'm lying to myself. She could hate me for all I know and she's only pitying me due to the prophecy. That's probably it!
It was silent in the cave. The fire no longer cackled with flames. Duke and Anne were whispering to each other as they both gazed out the dimly lit cave. Anne played with the dirt ground, while Duke was just staring at the bright, blue moon that gracefully hung in the dark sky. The only flashlight that was comforting. Duke tried to chuck a pebble at the moon. Does he honestly believe that he can hit the moon, which is thousands of miles away? The odd thing is, after that thought crossed my mind, he laughed. As well as Anne. They seemed to be having a grand time from over here. Just to get a better glimpse at them, I shifted my head so I could see. Anne and Duke looked rather pale in the moonlight. My eyes placed on Anne. Her facial expressions went to a smile, to a scowl. She said something barely audible to me, but just enough to get an idea.
"Why Hayden? He's just a boy. I highly doubt that he's done anything... Besides, Violet likes her!" Anne said louder than she should have. She looked around to see if anyone heard her. No one came in contact with her eyes. She set them back on Duke, who I couldn't see his face.
That was the only audible thing from that night. I couldn't make out anything else. They were all just whispers back and forth. I could tell that they, or more like Duke, had suspicions about Australian boy over there. Or at least, that's what I think I've gathered.
. . . . . .
That next morning, I was the second one awake. Hayden was wide awake, staring at his guitar while he polished it with a cloth.
"S'up, Kris? Rise and shine," He looked up and grinned at me. "Your hair is a mess."
I frowned at him and pulled a comb out of my pocket. I bought a new one back in that Inn place we were in. No clue why they had one, but it was too good to be true after my comb broke during that strange battle in Melbery. He played a melody which was pretty relaxing while I combed my hair until it felt perfect again. Then again, my hair is perfect in general.
"So..." He began, a poker face plastered on. Hayden plucked the strings while he played. "Kris, are you Gay?" He asks nonchalantly.
"Um, excuse me?" I arched an eyebrow at him. This kid was annoying. "Are you calling me Gay?" I don't know what Bry and Violet could find so attractive in this guy.
"Well, I am," he grins. "Come on, Kris, it's cool. No one'll have to know about us!" He said quite loudly. No one was awakened by his words. Yet.
"Dude, calm your 'man boobs'. I'm not Gay. Why not go like Violet or somethin'. Geez." I rolled my eyes at him.
Hayden soon burst into teary laughter. He slapped his hand on his knee and rocked back and forth while laughing. "Dude, I'm not Gay! I just wanted to see if you were. Your hair is like, I don't know, better taken care of than most guys. That's why I thought you were."
I balled my hands into fists. "I'm not-" Hair flip. "Gay, thank you very much!"
"Says the boy who flips his hair," he begins to play his acoustic guitar once again. The light wooden color of the guitar reflected the sunlight that beamed into the cave. His beanie sagged on the back of his head. How could he stand that?
"Whatever." I grumbled to myself. Anne jerked to a wake, her dark eyes looking bloodshot. Duke snored peacefully sitting up against a pillar of rock that supported the cave. A hole was in the center of the cave above. The sunlight laid directly on a pool of fresh water. Most of us ignored the fact that it even existed at this moment.
