Chapter 14 - Tribute interviews

Both Peeta and I have been going through training for the games the past two days, tonight we have our tribeute interviews. We met our stylist yesterday and had a tribute parade where Peeta and I wore clothing that was on fire Cinna my stylist came up with the idea. The people of the capital are strange I've always thought that but seeing them up close is even weirder with all the large colorful wigs and the clothing.

We were in line for our interviews, Cinna made me a one shoulder red dress that also had the special material that can light on fire. Peeta was behind me he looked very handsome and yet all I can think about is that this could be the last time I see him. It was time for the female tribute a 12 year old girl named Rue, She reminds me of Prim, I need to protect her I need to find her in the arena. Before I knew it I was up, walking up the to stage I had an interesting flurry of emotions, mostly sadness and shock. Ceaser Flickerman is a interesting character, this year his hair is lavender this year that was hugely teased on the top of his head. " Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire," he said. That's the only thing I reallt remember from this interview the only thing I can think of is how I can protect Peeta, rue and at the very bottom of my list how I can protect myself.

As I was escorted off the stage, I didn't get to see Peeta before he went on for his interview but I know he'll do great because the capital seems to love him which I understand why he's the most amazing, caring, understanding person I've ever met. Just like I expected Peeta was beloved by the capitol. While I watch his interview progress there's a question that I didn't want to hear but it happens. " So Peeta is there a special lady back at home?" Ceaser Flickerman asked. " Well uh that's kind of a difficult question for me to answer right now," Peeta said. " Well what do you mean?" Ceaser asked. " I um have a fiance," he said. " Well then I think you know what you have to do, win and then marry that girl," Ceaser said. " Well I don't think that's entirely possible," he said. " What do you mean Peeta?" Ceaser asked. " Because she came here with me," he said.
Ceaser gracefully ended the interview so that it didn't end on a sad note. I waited for Peeta in the hallway with Haymitch and Effie. " Katniss I'm so sorry I didn't want to say anything," he said. " Peeta you did the right thing, I think Haymitch is right it could probably help us in the games," I said. " I told you so sweetheart," Haymitch said.

The penthouse were is is way too fancy, I don't like it there's too much too look at. I haven't slept well these past three days so I decided to leave my bedroom in the capital provided night gown that looks like something my grandmother would wear to see Peeta sitting on the floor by a large window in what the capital calls the living room. " Peeta could you not sleep?" I asked. " No, but I'm assuming since your up your not sleeping well either," he said. " Can I sit on your lap?" I asked. " Of course," he said.
" I'm scared to think of life with out you, you have to survive long enough so that I can think of a way for us to both get out," I said. " Katniss, I don't want to be in this situation right now either but I don't think the game makers are going to be okay with us both being a victor," he said. " I wish we got married after last year's reaping then we would have both been safe." " I wish we did too, but then you wouldn't have been with Prim during her first reaping and I know that's what you wanted," he said. " I was prepared to volunteer for Prim but I don't think that this would happen too you," I said. " Kat, I'd rather be here with your right now than at home watching you," he said.

I was carrying around the small bag of sugar cookies around for a few days, and I decided that now was probably the right time to eat them. " Before we left your dad gave me some sugar cookies," I said handing one over to him. " Darling these cookies are four days old their going to taste good but are going to be super hard," he said. " Peeta just eat it," I said. Peeta was right the cookies are hard as rocks and I'm starting to have ideas on how to get the both of us home. " You know these floors are a bit hard do you want to go lay down?" He asked . " Yes I'd like that but you have to lay down with me," I said. " In one motion he stood up and I wrapped my arms around his neck and he carried me into my room.

" Katniss I love you so much," Peeta said. " I love you too," I said. " I still think it's the best if you go home," he said. " Peeta no, I can provide for myself and my family but what would I do without you?" I asked. " You'll move on Katniss," he said. " But I
don't want to move on I want you." " Darling this is just the way our world works we can't all get what we want," he said. " Peeta you need to stay alive for the first week and I'll be able to think of something," I said. Peeta inhaled through his nose before he spoke, " I'll try my best,' he said.

I layed my head on his chest in this moment one of the only things I could think of was when I first realized my feelings for him. It was when Peeta gave me the bread about 3 years ago , it wasn't only because he gave me the bread it was the first time I'd ever seen him we were in classes together for our entire lives. For some reason I decided to wait for him to talk to me I waited for two years for him to say something, anything or even for him to accidentally bump into me in the hallway just to feel him close. During that time I thought that one day he'd realize that I felt the same way that he felt about me.

Author's note: Hey everyone! I hope your all doing well! I know that I said I was only going to do two chapters this month but I was able to write this super fast! I hope to get at least one chapter out next month maybe two! I'm going to do a chapter in the arena, before the victory tour, and then the victory tour!
