Adam was in a particular hurry to hand over the weapons to me. His cheeky smile did not quite reach his eyes and I almost asked him what was wrong, till I remembered. Today was that day, the day his wife died years ago. I wished I knew where Violet was. She must be out of her mind, alone thinking about her mother's tragic death. As I looked at Adam, I already knew that he had killed whoever had sent an assassin to kill them. He had survived, but his wife hadn't. It must have been very traumatising for Violet to watch her mother die before her eyes at such a young age. Maybe that was what made Adam so ruthless, and Violet so cold.
"I know it's not part of this, but has Violet reached out yet?" I asked once everything was packed up. His smile slowly faded.
"Not yet, but she will turn up soon, trust me" he said.
"Aren't you ever afraid that she may cause herself harm? You know from the memories?" I asked.
"Well, as far as I can remember, for the past twelve years she has never done something of the sort. As much as we haven't been so close this year, she hasn't changed much" he said.
"Well I hope she comes around" I mumbled to myself.
"I wish you the best of luck, when she finds out about this she will say anything to make you change your mind, pay her no heed" he said seriously.
His voice made chills run down my spine. I would deal with her, she was reasonable, at least she wouldn't put a bullet in my head if I betrayed her. Though they said that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Maybe Violet was worse than her dad, I didn't know her well enough. Come to think of it, I might as well been jumping from the pan to the fire. I shoved that negativity at the back of my mind, this was no time to back down.
"I will inform you once the deal is done" I said firmly.
"Oh don't worry, I will know sooner than you think" he said his eyes dark. His smile then returned and he pat my shoulder and walked away.
My phone rang.
"Someone is missing me" I teased.
"Fuck off, where are you right now?" Ramirez asked.
"Now about to take a plane to Cuba, why you suddenly want to join?"
"I rather watch paint dry. I am just keeping tabs, Marteaz would skin me alive if anything went wrong"
"Okay, try not to miss me so much" I said and added a chuckle. He hang up, of course. I did one final check on everything and made sure everyone was ready. My men were ready, this deal was as good as done to me, though I couldn't help a feeling that something bad was bound to happen.
