The construction was going on pretty well in Costa Rica. Just one week and the whole place would be complete. A lot of money had been put into it, and more was going to be used. Melisa and I stood in our soon to be office, a large space with large windows which let the sun rays pour so generously into the room.
"I really cannot wait for its completion. I already bought a penthouse and my heart is aching for something new" Melisa said excited. We had agreed that she would move here first, then I would follow with time.
" I know, I am already growing tired of Mexico" I said.
"Does your husband know that you are moving here soon?" She asked with mischief with her eyes.
"No, and he will not know. I don't even think he would give shit about my whereabouts" I said even though those words stung deep inside.
"Well, I think you should tell him, for security purposes that is"
"For security purposes, I think we should just disappear into thin air, and never tell anyone where we are" I said jokingly, " though, I already gave him what he wants. He will overtake the business soon and it will no longer be of my concern"
"Okay then princess, if you say so. Just go ahead and leave the love of your life in the hands of your father" she said. I rolled my eyes and joined her in the laughter.***
The front gate of the house was open once I got home, which was quite odd. I drove into the compound to see Sean getting out of his car, meaning he also just arrived. His attention was to someone standing by the door, and as I halted and also looked, my worst fears were confirmed, it was my father. I swallowed hard as I remembered that an exchange was bound to happen in two hours. I exhaled and hurriedly got out the car."Sean" I said once I got to where they were standing, interrupting their small conversation. He responded with a small nod.
"Father-" I said turning my attention to him with an obviously fake smile on me "what are you doing here?"
"Violet dear, that is no way to greet your old man, but I am here because I have been looking for you. You weren't in any of the ranches so I figured I might find you here" he boomed.
"I was just um, spending the day with my husband, my phone was off to avoid distractions" I lied while drawing my hand through the crook of his elbow. Sean gave me a concerned look, he was confused, but he stayed quiet.
"Okay then I thought you had forgotten about our appointment tonight" he said looking at his expensive watch.
"I didn't forget father, I just didn't think you would actually come all the way to Mexico to remind me" I said through clenched teeth. I was growing impatient, his presence was intimidating.
"What Vee is trying to say is that you are welcome to our house, let's go inside and have a drink, shall we?" Sean interrupted skillfully noticing the tension between us."I think Sean should come to the exchange tonight" I said looking at my husband. Papi sipped his drink and set it down.
"If you want him there, how can I object? Besides, he is my son, maybe it's time he joins us" he said, the words rolling off his tongue effortlessly. It took me a minute to process those words. I was prepared to give him a million reasons as to why he should, but he just so readily accepted.
"Son, my daughter is a very valuable person to me. I am sure you know that. If you observing her at work makes her happy, then I will let you. Just take care of my precious jewel now" Papi addressed Sean.
"Yes sir, I will" Sean said confidently, though I could hear a slight tremor in his voice.
"Good" Papi said as he drained off the rest of his drink. Now I was certain something was wrong. That act of a caring father he just put up could have fooled anyone but me. I knew my father, business to him was everything, his number one priority. He gave me up to pay up a debt he had with Marteaz just so he could protect his business. This was just not right, Papi never put up a show for anyone, now he was putting it on Infront of the person who knew him most? Geuss he was hiding bigger secrets than I.
Sean and I sat quietly in Papi's private jet since I was too terrified to say anything and Sean was too confused. My head was spinning and aching so bad because I knew that whatever was coming, I was not prepared for.The exchange went on well, Sean kept his silence while I did the talking. We were selling some guns, only found in the black market to some people who had flew in from Norway. They went ahead to do some test fires and once they were satisfied pulled out their money. It was in three cases, all full. Sean's eyes widened as he was not expecting such big bucks from selling just five guns. I signaled him to go get one of the cases.
Once the buyers left, Papi's men came over to collect the casings and bullets from the ground. I took a scanner from Papi's hand and scanned for any evidence left.We then moved to the security footage room and witnessed the footage being erased and replaced by another from some random normal night in the ranch. This was all protocol, no evidence of an exchange would be left. It had been like that since I could remember, and this made Papi a ghost, for no one had actually caught up with his tricks. After that, every stake holder was given their fair share and all devices and weapons returned to their owners.
"Have a safe flight home darling" Papi said after handing over my phone then kissed my cheek. I got into the jet and Sean followed after saying goodbye to my father. He sat opposite me in the jet as his stare burned deep inside of me. He was obviously seeking answers, but so was I.
