When we first arrived home from the bonfire, everyone was quiet

We all walked inside to meet Katherine in the kitchen, drying dishes

I walked in first with Kaia behind me

Katherine looked up at us and smiled

"Hey, did you guys have fun?" she asked

"Woah" she said when she noticed the graze of the side of my face, still bleeding slightly

"Cole what happened?" she asks me, but I ignore her and walk past her

"You should see the other guy" I say before walking upstairs

I walk into the bathroom and look at the graze on the side of my face before wiping it with a cloth

I hear the door open slightly behind me and Kaia walks in

"Sorry, I know this is your bathroom, I was just trying to you know, avoid another encounter" I say to her, when she leans against the wall beside her

"It's fine" she mutters, before walking over to me and taking her toothbrush out of her drawer

"About before" I start to speak but she interrupts me

"Can we just not" she says, her voice cracking slightly

I nod, going back to wiping my graze

"There's no point cleaning one side of it" Kaia says turning to me, putting her toothbrush down.

I turn to her

"Here" she says, taking the cloth from my hand and bringing it to my graze

"Ow" I groan, my flesh stinging as it makes contact with the cloth

"Wait, just stop" she says to me as I go to move her hand away because of reflexes but she moves her other hand under my chin and tilts in upwards, so she has a better view of my graze.

She holds my face in place with her hand, her soft fingertips moving the wipe as she gently wipes away the traces of blood on my face.

"Why did you pressure me into doing a DNA test" she mumbles as she presses the cloth against my wound.

I look into her eyes, noticing hurt in hers

"I thought you'd want to know who your real p-"

"NO" she says, her voice getting higher as she pulls away from me, the cloth dropping to the floor

"They stopped being my parents the moment they left me" she says, her voice shaking as tears well in her eyes

"Spitfire-" I say as I reach out to her, the sight of her crying making me want to hug her

"I-If you didn't suggest the DNA test no one would've known" she says, pushing me away from her

I step back slightly, shock appearing over of my face

"So, this is my fault? You're blaming this on me?!" my voice getting louder

She rubs her eyes, wiping the tears into the sleeve of my hoodie
