Theo's POVIt's been about a week already since I last saw Luna and I'm getting worried about her. As I remember the girl at her work saying that he was mad he could've taken it out on her. I shut my locker and turned to Elijah, "it's been a week and she hasn't come to school. What if something terrible happened to her? All we know is that she could be in a ditch somewhere." He says with a worried look. I figured out why I am worried and want to help her, it's because she reminds me of my mother. When she was younger she was abused by men and my father helped her get out of that life. And now she is the most caring and kind but so strong and that's what I see in Luna that's why i need to help her.
Elijah and I tried to access Luna's school file for more information, but it was practically empty—just her name, with everything else blacked out. It was as if she didn't even attend this school, which was strange. Suddenly, I heard a girl scream Luna's name. I looked up to see Luna and her friend hugging. As they walked down the hall, Luna kept her head down, staring at the floor as if it were the most fascinating thing in the world.
As they approached her locker, which is just a few down from mine, I noticed she was wearing makeup to cover up dark bruises on her face and neck. I swear, the next time I see James, he's going to pay for hurting her. I watched as she gathered books from her locker. "At least we know she's still alive. I'll have one of the boys keep an eye on her," Elijah said. I continued to watch her a bit longer, making sure she seemed okay. Then, I took out my phone and pretended to read messages from the boys, all while listening to their conversation.
Luna pov
It's been about a week since that night, and I'm finally allowed to go back to school. My ribs are killing me; I think they might have actually broken a few, but that's nothing new. "LUNA!" I flinched and looked up to see Sara running toward me. When she reached me, she pulled me into a hug so tight that I almost cried out in pain, but I held back the tears. I won't cry here. I need to be strong.
"Hey, I'm fine. Just settle down and ease up a bit on the hug, please. It hurts," I said, choking back the tears that threatened to escape.
She let go of me and noticed all the new bruises, which were numerous. "Are you okay? Wait, of course you're not. I'm an idiot. Do you want me to get you anything for the pain?" she asked, fumbling with something in her bag.
I tried to smile but couldn't. I felt so tired and in so much pain that I thought I might pass out, but I kept pushing through. "I'll be fine, don't worry," I said, giving her a sad look. She hugged me lightly. "I just don't want to talk about it." She's like the sister I never had, and I love her for that. She makes me feel like there's still a bit of fight left in me and that things might get better someday, even if I can only dream of that.
"I swear that I will hurt him for what he is doing to you." sara says and she puts up her fist and pretends to be hitting someone which makes me smile a little how in the world did i end up with her i don't care she is my life line and that's all that matters.
I gave her a serious look and said, "No, you won't. Even though I despise him, you can't just hurt him. I don't want you to get involved and end up hurt. I couldn't live with myself if something happened to you."
She looked determined, and I knew that if I gave her the green light, she'd actually go through with it. She's absolutely crazy. "Yes, I will. He's hurting you, and he needs to pay for what he's done. He's slowly taking your spark away, and I can't just stand by and watch anymore." I was about to argue back when the sound of someone punching a locker made me turn around. A few lockers down, I saw Theo looking pissed off, with a huge dent in the locker he'd hit. Deciding it was time to leave, I realized it was best not to have people overhear Sara and me. I didn't want more trouble.
I turned to her and said, "Let's head to class."
Sara looked at me and said, "Ugh, fine, but we're not done talking about this, missy." I glanced back at Theo and saw him staring at me. It was clear he had heard everything, which meant things were about to get even more complicated.
