Luna's pov
Sara told me that everyone thought I had died because they heard the gunshots and knew I was in that alley before I vanished. But I'll show everyone that Luna is back and better than ever. We spent time gossiping about all the random things I missed. I told her about the boys, and she was genuinely excited to meet them.
Before we could say anything else, the school bell rang. Oh shit, we missed the first class. Oh well, if I had a choice I wouldn't come, but I just wanted to see Sara and maybe Theo.
We walked out into the crowded hall full of kids rushing past us. When we reached our second period the bell already went off so we were late now. When we walked in I saw that Britney was sitting there like she was the queen at least that didn't change sadly. I turned my attention back to what the teacher was saying and I noticed she was talking to Sara rudely, "Since you were two minutes late you have detention after school." I saw that Sara was upset but she still took the detention slip and walked to her chair.
I heard Sara whisper, "Sorry that I was late," as she walked to her chair, clearly upset. That got me mad because she didn't do anything wrong and it was only two minutes. So, I spoke up, "Hey, she's not sorry and has nothing to be sorry about. She was helping me because I'm new here. So, no, she won't be going to detention over two freaking minutes. What you did was wrong."
You could practically see smoke coming out of the teacher's ears. She glared at me for a moment, then turned to her desk, grabbed another detention slip, and handed it to me. I just rolled my eyes and said, "Who pissed in your Cheerios?"
She spun around so fast I thought she might break her neck. Raising an eyebrow, she asked, "What did you say?" I repeated it right in her face, then tore up the detention slip right in front of her. Laughter erupted from the class, but it quickly died down as she turned back to them. Glancing at a piece of paper on her desk, she sighed and said, "Well, welcome, Luna. Sit by Britney."
I just smiled and said, "Oh, heck no. I am not sitting by her. She'll probably give me something if I do." Everyone's mouths dropped open, and Britney glared at me. Ignoring her, I walked to the back and sat at an empty desk.
The teacher handed me a ton of papers that I had no idea what to do with. I guess this is payback for talking back to her. When the bell finally rang, signaling the end of class, I felt relieved as I had been struggling to stay awake. Sara and I walked to the lunchroom, and as we entered, all heads turned towards us, watching my every movement. I could feel their eyes scanning me from head to toe, noticing how my clothing and confidence had changed. No more hiding under big hoodies or sweats. What's wrong with these people? I'm not some circus attraction, so I shouted, "What are you looking at?" They all jumped and turned away like scared animals.
Sara and I got our food; I chose a salad, spaghetti, and water. After paying, we walked to our table and sat down. I pulled out my phone to text the boys and check on how they were doing. Sara excused herself to the bathroom, leaving me alone at the table.
I was in the middle of texting when the wannabe Barbie walked up. Without looking up, I said, "Could you move to the left a little? You're blocking the light." This caught everyone's attention. She then sneered, "Oh, look who brought the trash in."
Oh, she doesn't know who she's messing with. I replied, "Britney, you should never talk about yourself like that." Everyone started to laugh.
Britney looked around and then turned back to me, "No, I was talking to an ugly little bitch. Oh, wait, it's you."
She crossed the line, but I kept my cool. "I've been called worse, you wannabe Barbie."
She looked at me and frowned, saying, "Well, at least I'm not acting fake to get attention like you." I just rolled my eyes. When I was about to say something, she cut me off, "You weren't stuck up before. You were a nerd that never said anything. We'd all be happy if you stopped being fake and went back to being the real you," she said with a smug smile.
I smiled back, refusing to back down. "I'm being fake? Yeah, right. I just stayed to myself back then and didn't let my true colors show. Until now, so you can leave me the hell alone."
She glared at me and asked, "Why are you even back?"
I grinned and replied, "Because I like pushing your buttons."
Her anger flared as she got right in my face and said, "Get the fuck out of my school."
I burst out laughing, barely able to choke out, "Did you just say your school?" I was holding my stomach, and everyone looked at me like I'd lost my mind. "You're joking, right?" I said, my face suddenly serious.
She looked taken aback and replied, "Why would I be joking?"
I stepped closer, getting right in her face, and said loudly enough for everyone to hear, "Well, it's not your damn school anymore. It's mine."
I didn't expect her to fight back. As I turned around, I saw her winding up for a punch. I reacted quickly, catching her arm and twisting it behind her back, making her scream. She retaliated by elbowing me in the stomach, causing me to release her arm. Before I could fully recover, she punched me in the jaw. The pain was sharp, but I didn't back down. I struck back, and she fell to the ground. Fueled by rage, I got on top of her and kept hitting her until some football jocks dragged me off. I glanced back at Britney; her face was barely recognizable. Damn, I need to control my rage.
I went back to our table and sat down, noticing my knuckles were bleeding and covered in Britney's blood. I didn't care; she deserved it. As I started eating again, Sara sat down across from me and said, "I can't leave you alone for a minute, can I?" She looked down at my bruised knuckles, shaking her head slightly.
I just laughed and said, "Well, she started it, so I finished it," as I stabbed a piece of lettuce with my fork.
Sara smiled, shook her head, and said, "What happened to you?"
Confused, I raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean? I'm still me, just not afraid to speak my mind anymore."
She rolled her eyes and said, "You used to be so shy and nice to everyone. Now you're mean, and you don't care what anyone thinks about you." I started laughing.
I smiled and said, "I'm just showing everyone who I really am. I'm done hiding. They can bring it on; I'll be ready this time."
She smiled back and said, "I like this new you."
I laughed, "Thanks. I learned from the best." I winked, knowing she was the one who showed me how to be kind when I didn't have anyone else. We then started talking about boys and other random things.
