Theo pov

I was so pissed about what I heard, that I just had to punch something, and the only thing that I thought was good enough was the locker. I guess I hit it way too hard because there was a dent but I don't fucking care. I will kill that bastard when I see him next. I saw Luna looking back at me when she was leaving to go to her class. I knew she had caught me listening after she turned the corner. I got ready to go since we both have the same class. Plus I wanted to have an eye on her just in case something happens at school and I can be there for her.

I told Elijah I would be a little late to class and that I'd see him later since I had to make an important phone call first. Stepping outside the school, I dialed a number. After a few seconds of ringing, a tired voice answered, "Hello?"

"Hey, I need you to do something for me."

I heard her shuffle things around before whining, "What do you want now?" Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

"I need you to find information on a girl for me."

She chuckled. "I'm not keeping tabs on one of your sluts, Theo. That's just disgusting."

I rolled my eyes. "She's not a slut. She's actually very cute and smart, and I could go on, but she's definitely not a slut. So don't ever say that again."

I heard her laughing. "Fine. I'll watch the poor girl. What's her name?"

"I can't believe I don't know this—her name is Luna, but I have no idea what her last name is."

"You want me to find information on a girl named Luna, and you don't even have her last name? This is going to be like finding a needle in a haystack, but I'll see what I can do. Just send me a picture of her. Talk to you later, asshole."

Dang, I feel the love. I'm going to figure you out, Luna, if it's the last thing I do.

After finishing my call, I headed back inside and remembered I had to go to math class and sit next to Luna. Hopefully, one day she'll be my girl, but that will come later, once she's free and if she wants to. I can't wait to see her smile, laugh, and be truly happy. That's when I'll know I've helped her. I walked into class, and the teacher looked at me. "You're late, Mr. Garcia."

I made my way to my seat and sat down. "No, I'm not. I'm Theo..." I said.

She looked like she was getting pissed. "Don't be smart with me, child."

I rolled my eyes. "How can I be smart if you're not teaching us?" I just wanted to see how far I could push this.

"You have detention after school, you disrespectful rat," she snapped.

"Well, if you give me detention, you won't have time to screw the principal, now will you?" I heard a little chuckle beside me and glanced over to see a small smile on Luna's face. Glad I could make her smile.

"I, um, don't know what you're talking about," the teacher stammered.

I swear, this teacher is so annoying. "Oh really? On my first day, you two were all touchy-feely, weren't you?"

She glared at me, shooting daggers with her eyes. "I'm done with you. Just sit down and be quiet," she snapped. Then she turned to the class and said, "You have the rest of the class to do whatever you want. I don't care anymore."

Hearing the teacher's announcement, I smirked, knowing exactly how I wanted to spend the rest of the class. I got up, grabbed Luna's hand, and pulled her out of the classroom. The teacher yelled at us to come back, but it was too late—the doors were already closing behind us. We headed to the football field, and once we reached the middle, I let go of her arm and looked at her.

I noticed she was already looking at me with her big, beautiful blue eyes, but I could tell she was in pain and trying to hide it. Dragging her here probably didn't help—oops. "What are we doing here?" I heard her quiet voice ask.

"You seem like a lovely girl, and I thought it would be nice to get to know you," I said, offering her a seat on the bleachers. She sat down but kept looking around cautiously, as if expecting to get in trouble any minute.

She blushed but then looked at me, confused. "Why me, out of all the other girls? They're so much better than me, I promise."

"I don't want any of those other girls. I want to know the girl who draws amazingly and looks like a beautiful angel with a bright smile." She looked up and smiled, a genuine, real smile. I couldn't believe I got her to smile, and it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

Luna shook her head and said, "Okay, I don't know what you're up to, but it's not going to work. Did Sara set this up? Because I'm really not that interested." She started to stand up, but I grabbed her hand, noticing her flinch.

I wanted to ask about her bruises, but I knew I couldn't, so instead, I said, "What's your favorite animal?" I sat down next to her and watched as she bit her bottom lip, thinking.

She seemed to go into deep thought before saying, "I guess wolves."

"Really? That's cool," I replied with a smile. "Mine is a panther."

She tilted her head slightly and asked, "Why a panther?"

I smiled for the first time in a long while and said, "Well, because they are invisible in the dark, they're driven, and they remind me of myself. What about you? Why do you like wolves?"

She gave a small smile and sat quietly for a minute before finally saying, "Well, I guess because they're cute, but also caring and loving. They're devoted to their families and fight for the people they love. I guess they remind me of myself too." I smiled at her answer. There was a comfortable silence before she turned to me and asked, "What's your favorite sport?"

I smiled. "Well, that's an easy one—football. I love watching it, but I also play a few games with friends. Not to brag, but I'm the quarterback and captain of the school football team."

She nodded and said, "I could have guessed, considering you dragged me to the football field. But you've only been here for two weeks. How are you already the captain and quarterback?"

I put my hand on my heart and said, "That hurts. You haven't even watched me play yet, and you're already doubting me?" She laughed a little, and we spent the rest of the time asking and answering questions, making her laugh. But then the football coach showed up and told us the bell had already rung and we needed to get to our next class or face detention. I helped her up, and we walked back, laughing at the most random things she thought of.

When we entered the lunchroom laughing, the cafeteria fell silent, and all eyes were on us. I saw Luna's smile drop as she looked at the ground, trying to hide her face. In my most intimidating voice, I yelled, "What are you guys looking at?!" Everyone quickly turned back around and resumed talking to their friends, though I knew they were now talking about Luna and me. We exchanged goodbyes, and Luna walked over to Sara, sitting down at their table and starting to talk.
