Vyaan :

Sitting here in the groom's room, I feel like a storm is raging inside me. My parents just dropped a bombshell on me-I'm supposed to marry someone I barely know. They said they made a promise when we were children, a promise I can't even remember. It's like a distant, hazy dream that doesn't touch my reality.

All I can think about is Adhivithi. The accident that took her from me has left a void in my life, one I still can't seem to fill. Everyone says she's dead, but I refuse to believe it. I have this deep-seated hope that somewhere, somehow, she's still out there. I can't shake the belief that I'll find her, no matter how many years pass.

When my father revealed the bride's name, my anger was immediate and uncontrollable. Driti Bhat. The name struck a nerve, one I didn't even know I had. I never imagined my parents were friends with her family. Driti, the girl I met in boarding school when I was seventeen, and she was just thirteen. I had to take a break from school due to the accident, and when I returned, she was there, carrying a familiar innocence that tugged at my heartstrings.

I shouldn't have been drawn to her, but I was. I tried to control her, to be near her, even though I knew I had no right to. It was my best friend who pointed out the absurdity of my feelings-how could I love her when I had Adhivithi waiting somewhere in the dark corners of my mind?

Today feels like the culmination of all my fears and frustrations. Marriage was never on my agenda, not without Adhivithi. I had dreams of a future with her, dreams that have now been shattered over sixteen long years.

And now, I'm supposed to marry Driti. The last time I saw her, she was leaving boarding school, eight years ago. Seeing her now, as my bride-to-be, feels like a cruel twist of fate. My parents insisted I at least look at her, and though I tried to avoid it, I couldn't. There's something about her that seems to have a spell over me. It's maddening how she has this way of capturing my heart, even when I want to hate her for it.

This isn't how I imagined my life. This isn't the path I wanted. And yet, here I am, on the brink of marrying someone who is a reminder of everything I've lost and a symbol of a future I never wanted.

It's been a grueling three hours. I ordered everyone out, demanded solitude, and they complied. I needed this-needed the silence to drown out the chaos in my mind. The man I became after boarding school is nothing like the boy I once was. I've carved out a life where I let no one in except for my parents, my family, and Adhivithi. Finding her has been my singular purpose, the only thing that gives my life meaning.
