"Stay," I whispered before I could stop myself, the word hanging in the air between us.
Vyaan paused mid-step, his back still to me. For a moment, I wasn't sure he'd heard me. The silence stretched, thick with uncertainty, but I didn't take it back. I couldn't.
Slowly, he turned to face me, his expression unreadable. His eyes flickered with something-surprise, hesitation, maybe even something softer.
"You want me to stay?" His voice was low, guarded, like he wasn't sure if he believed what he had just heard.
I nodded, feeling a sudden vulnerability creeping into my chest. I wasn't sure why I'd said it, but after everything that had happened, after all the tension and fear, I didn't want to be alone. Not tonight.
For a long moment, Vyaan just stared at me, as if weighing my words. Then, without another word, he walked back toward the bed, his footsteps deliberate, almost cautious. He sat down beside me, the mattress sinking slightly under his weight.
Neither of us spoke. The air between us felt charged, like there was something unspoken lingering just beneath the surface. But for once, the silence wasn't uncomfortable. It was... something else.
Vyaan leaned back, his gaze softening as he glanced at me. "I'll stay," he said quietly. "But don't expect me to be nice."
A faint smile tugged at my lips. "I wouldn't dream of it."
We stayed like that, the distance between us feeling both immense and strangely close, as if all the battles we'd fought were momentarily forgotten in the stillness of the night.
Without warning, Vyaan grabbed the hem of his shirt and pulled it over his head, tossing it carelessly onto the floor. His bare chest gleamed in the dim light, and I felt my pulse quicken involuntarily.
I shot him a look, my voice sharp. "What are you doing?"
He glanced down at me, an amused smirk playing on his lips. "Relax, Leonessa. I'm just getting comfortable."
I narrowed my eyes at him, trying to ignore the way my heartbeat spiked. His casual attitude only made the situation more intense, more confusing. "You could've just... sleep."
He leaned back, stretching his arms behind his head, clearly enjoying how flustered I was becoming. "You said stay, and this is how I stay."
I huffed, pulling the blanket up a little higher, trying to put some distance between us-at least mentally. But it wasn't working. The tension was still thick, and the heat between us hadn't diminished.
