Ms. Thompson’s POV
Once I got home from the park, I started cooking and prepared the house for my friends. At around nine the doorbell rang.
Oreo went nuts as I opened the door. Alex and Joey walked in and they both hugged me. We went in the living room.
“So, the hot redhead last night…” Alex trailed off.
“What about her?” I shrugged.
“Is something going on between you?”
“No, we are just friends.” He scoffed. “Really. Plus I don’t even know if she’s gay.”
“Oh she is dude, trust me.” He smiled at me.
“So, your love life is still a shit show Addie.” Joey added and I squinted my eyes at him. “Eve keeps stealing all the girls from Addie.” He told Alex and they chuckled.
“Not funny. I hate this girl.”
“It’s karma for stealing my girlfriend in college.”
“I’ve apologized for that Alex.”
“I know.” He smiled.
We kept chatting and joking around until late. We ate, listened to music and played board games. They left around 1 in the morning.
Once my friends left, I changed into a pair of black jeans, a white tank top and a black hoodie and left. I wasn’t proud of what I was going to do.
Before I moved away for uni, I used to hang out with a bunch of sketchy guys. I had met them during high school, but most of them dropped on the first year. They were mixed up with a lot of illegal things. Back then, I was struggling a lot, not financially, but I was in a bad place. I wanted to get involved as well, but they never let me, they said that I could have a better life than that. They were super sweet and always looked out for me.
They were kind of like my big brothers, although only one of them was actually older than me.
When I moved away to go to uni, I went no contact. I was scared that if I kept in touch and hang out with them and they got caught I would also get mixed up, and that’s the last I wanted.
Well, I’m going to pay them a visit today and I hope that they’ll be happy to see me. If anyone knew about a fight club, that would be them, they were probably going to be the ones running it too. I knew where to find them, unless they’ve moved spots, which I doubt.
They were obviously in the bad part of the town, walking through the streets and the alleys there would be intimidating for most people, but not for me, I had been there before.
As I approached the spot, I could hear yelling and talking. As soon as I stepped in the alley, all eyes were on me, and silence followed. I was an outsider, and it appears that I wasn’t welcomed there. I grew a little nervous, having at least 20 people staring at me.
A pretty large dude stood up and approached me.
“I think you are lost.” He gave me a threatening smile, that made my skin crawl. I knew I couldn’t show weakness or fear.
“I don’t think so.” I smirked.
“Leave.” He growled and tried to grab me. I kneed him in the nuts and grabbed his arm, twisting it, until he fell on the ground.
A bunch of dudes stood up and started approaching me. I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins.
“What’s going on? Who is there?” I heard a familiar voice yell. He pushed a bunch of people aside to get to me. “No way! Addie?” He pulled me into a hug I wrapped my arms around him. “What are you doing here? Except from you know, trying to get yourself killed?”
I chuckled and so did he.
“Can’t I visit an old friend?”
“Yeah right.” He rolled his eyes playfully. “Let’s go chat at my place.”
I stared at him as we walked. He had changed a lot. His hair was longer, and he seemed to be buffed as well. He turned to look at me and smiled, pulling me into a side hug.
“Matty, are you home?” His mum yelled and walked in the hallway.
“You remember Addie, don’t you?”
“Of course, I do. Did you come back to visit?”
“I moved back here, actually, I got my degree and have a job as a teacher.”
“I knew you were going to be successful, you were always smart.” I smiled and we walked to his room. Nothing had changed, it was just like the last time we were here.
We sat on the bed, and we started chatting about what we’ve been up to.
“It’s been nice talking to you Addie, but why are you really here?” I sighed.
“You don’t happen to know if there are any fight clubs around, do you?” He eyed me and shrugged. “You are not going to tell me?”
“Depends on why you are asking.”
“Because I need to take out my anger on something Mat.”
“Then go to a rage room, Addison, these things aren’t for you.”
“I think I can decide for myself.” He rolled his eyes.
“Addie, you have a good life now, don’t fuck it up.”
“I don’t need advice Mat, I know what I’m getting into, I was in one when I was in uni.”
“Fine, Charles is in charge of one. It’s at the old building down the corner of Willington square.”
“Thank you.” I hugged him.
“Do you want me to come with you?”
“No, it’s fine.”
“Are you sure? It’s hard to get in…”
“I’ve got this. Thank you though.”
“Just be careful Addie.”
“Don’t worry, I got this. We should meet for a coffee and properly catch up.”
“Yes, here’s my number, text me.” He scribbled his phone number on a piece of paper and handed it to me.
“I will.”
I left and walked to find that old building.
There was a dude dressed in black standing by the door.
“This is a private property.”
“I know Charles.”
“Many people do.”
“I want to talk to him.” He scoffed.
“Listen here, sweetie, this is private property, and you need to go, Charles doesn’t have time to deal with people like you.”
“People like me?”
“You are either a crazy ex or a bitch looking for a favor, so...”
He didn’t get to finish since I punched him and tried to make a run for it, but he grabbed my arm and pinned me on the ground.
“Hey boss, there’s a crazy bitch here, causing trouble.
“Coming right up, don’t let her leave.” I heard his voice through the walkie talkie.
A few minutes later the door opened, and he walked closer. I looked up at him and smiled.
“Addie.” He exclaimed. “Let her go!” He ordered. “Are you okay?” He helped me up.
“I’m fine.”
“I’m not, she punched me.” The guy complained and Charles look softened.
“Sorry.” He told me and walked towards the guy, he cupped his cheek and kissed him.
“Wait, you are a couple? Dude, that’s so cuteee.”
“Yeah, he’s my boyfriend, I’m bi, actually.”
I apologized for punching him and we walked inside.
“So, Addie, what are you doing here?”
“I want to fight people” I smiled.
"Things get serious down there.”
“Listen, Mat already tried to talk my out of it, I was in a fight club in university, I know.”
“Fine, but first I’ll have to see you fight. There’s a person that has requested an opponent and there aren’t any scheduled fights for today.”
“I’m in.”
“Cool, let’s get you in there then.” He pointed at the cage. I pulled off my hoodie and handed it to him while he led me to the cage. “There’s a referee, he will call it when he believes it’s needed. Weapons are forbidden.”
“Got it.”
I got in and a few minutes later a girl walked in. She had short hair and she was in her sports bra. She was hot.
“Oh look, a princess. What are you doing here sweetie?” She mocked me. “Did your daddy cut off your allowance? Is that why you are here?”
“Fuck off.” I stepped closer.
“Aw are you upset? What are you going to do? Go tell your daddy about it?”
I attempted to punch her, but she ducked.
“Ey yo, Charles, next time set me up with a real fi…” She didn’t get to finish as I landed a punch on the side of her face. She stumbled backwards.
“More fighting, less talking.” I smirked.
“Whatever you say, daddy’s girl.”
Thankfully kickboxing came in handy, because I was able to block most of her punches and land a few good ones. She grabbed me and tried to punch me, so I fell on the ground, taking her with me. Her grip loosened and I managed to get on top of her.
I punched her on her body and face a couple of times, until the referee pulled me off her.
He announced me as the winner and the crowd cheered. I looked over at the other girl and she was still lying on the ground. I walked over to her. I gave her my hand and helped her up.
“Not a daddy’s girl, are you?”
“Nope, I’m not.” We walked to the bathroom. Her face was bleeding.
“What are you still doing here?”
“I thought you might need help.”
“Aren’t you nice?” She mocked me and I handed her some paper to stop the bleeding.
“Bitter that I ruined your ass out there?” She scoffed.
“I haven’t seen you around before.”
“I just moved up after uni.”
“Uni?” She rolled her eyes. And washed off the blood from her hands and face. “So, you are smart.” I shrugged. “You hit pretty hard, and your defense game is pretty good.”
“Thanks, you could use some training.”
“I’m free anytime, if you are offering.” She smirked and I smiled. “Come here” She took my hand in hers and put it under the running water. The punching had left my knuckles bleeding. “That must hurt.”
“It does.”
“So, what did you study?”
“English language and literature.”
“That’s cool, do you work somewhere?”
“I’m not telling you, I don’t even know you.”
“You are right, you don’t.” She stepped closer, she put her hand under my chin and leaned in. Her lips touched mine, I brought my hand to her cheek. “I’m Noah by the way.” She smirked as we pulled away.
“I’m Addison.”
“Nice to meet you Addison, I’ll see you around right?”
“Probably.” I smiled and we walked out of the bathroom.
I went to find Charles.
“Addie, that was impressive. I didn’t know you could hit like that.” I smiled. “You are in, here’s my number, you can contact me anytime you want to arrange a fight or just come in.”
“Thanks Charles.” He made a fist for a fist bump. “I’ll pass.” I showed him my knuckled and he scrunched his nose.
I walked home and threw my clothes into the washing machine, since they had Noah’s blood on it.
I wrapped my knuckles with a clean bandage and dropped on my bed. I had two hours to sleep before I had to get up for school.
I woke up the next morning to my alarm clock. My body was hurting and I was tired.
I got dressed, the side of my body was bruised, my cheekbone was red and my knuckles were messed up. I decided to not put a bandage on them, since it would draw more attention. I took an ibuprofen and put make up to cover the fact that I had been punched. I took Oreo for a quick walk and went to work.
Students and teachers noticed my hand, but didn’t say anything. Although, I could hear the some of the students gossiping about in in the hallways. Isabella, however, didn’t hesitate. She seemed concerned about me, which was really sweet. She was really sweet.Noah
