Back at the Royal Guard’s headquarters, Kristin, Marieke, and Farrah gathered around a large table cluttered with scrolls and maps. The tension in the air was palpable as they tried to piece together what they had discovered in the Archives. Despite their best efforts, the source of the powerful aura they had sensed remained elusive.
Kristin traced her finger over a map of the fairy realm, marking the areas where they had detected the strongest magical disturbances. “We’ve searched every known location where that witch could be hiding,” she said, frustration seeping into her voice. “But we still can’t pinpoint the source of that aura.”
Marieke leaned back in her chair, deep in thought. “It’s almost like the aura is moving or… deliberately avoiding us. But that doesn’t make any sense. How could something so powerful be so hard to track?”
Farrah, who had been quietly analyzing a set of ancient texts, looked up. “It’s possible we’re dealing with someone who understands how to mask their presence. If this witch is as powerful as we suspect, she might have access to ancient magics that allow her to conceal her location, even from us.”
Kristin’s brow furrowed as she considered Farrah’s words. “But why would she need to hide? And why now?”
Marieke interjected, “Perhaps she’s not hiding from us, but from something—or someone—else. If there’s another powerful force at play, she might be trying to protect herself, or even protect something we don’t yet understand.”
Kristin sighed, leaning over the table. “Whatever the reason, we need to figure it out before the situation escalates. If we can’t find her soon, the consequences could be dire.”
As they discussed their next steps, a messenger entered the room, bowing respectfully before addressing Kristin. “Captain, there’s been a report from the outskirts of the realm. Another surge of magic, similar to the one you felt in the Archives.”
Kristin exchanged a glance with Marieke and Farrah. “Where exactly?”
The messenger handed over a small scroll. Kristin unrolled it, her eyes scanning the details. “It’s near the border of the human realm… a place we haven’t checked yet.”
Marieke’s eyes widened slightly. “The human realm? That’s risky. If the balance is already fragile, any disturbance there could have severe repercussions.”
Farrah nodded in agreement. “If that witch is there, we need to be careful. The human realm isn’t as resilient to magical disturbances as our own. We could inadvertently cause a collapse.”
Kristin folded the scroll and set it aside. “Then we’ll proceed with caution. But we can’t ignore this lead. If this is where the aura is coming from, we need to investigate.”
Marieke stood, ready for action. “I’ll gather the necessary supplies and make the preparations.”
Kristin turned to Farrah. “You’ll come with us. Your expertise in ancient magics might be crucial if we encounter anything we don’t understand.”
Farrah gave a curt nod, though her expression remained guarded. The tension between her and Kristin was still evident, the remnants of their fractured friendship lingering like a shadow over their mission.
As the trio made their final preparations, the atmosphere in the headquarters grew more somber. They all understood the gravity of their task—finding this mysterious witch and uncovering the truth behind the disturbances was more important than ever. But with each step they took, the mystery seemed to deepen, the unknown forces at play growing more sinister.
As they left the headquarters and set off towards the border, none of them could shake the feeling that something was watching them, something ancient and powerful, waiting for the right moment to reveal itself.
