The sound of my phone ringing pulls me from sleep. Groggily, I reach for it and find myself in my bedroom, the events of the night before still fresh in my mind. I answer the call, seeing Alex's name on the screen.

"Hey, Riley," his voice comes through, sounding concerned. "How are you feeling?"

I rub my eyes, sitting up in bed. "I'm okay, just tired. What about you?"

"I'm alright. Are you free right now?"

"Yeah, why?" I reply, still half-asleep.

"Great. Can you open the door then?"

His words jolt me fully awake. "What? You're here?"

"Yep," he says with a chuckle. "Surprise."

I jump out of bed, my heart racing. "Okay, give me a second!"

I quickly freshen up, splashing water on my face and brushing my hair into something resembling neatness. I throw on some comfortable clothes and rush downstairs. As I open the door, I find Alex standing there with a small smile.

"Good morning," he greets, his eyes filled with warmth.

"Morning, Alex. What are you doing here?" I ask, still trying to process his sudden appearance.

"I wanted to check on you. After last night, I was worried," he says, his expression sincere.

I feel a surge of gratitude and pull him into a hug. "Thank you, Alex. That means a lot."

As we step inside, Alex takes a seat at the kitchen table. "Do you want something to eat?" I ask, my voice still a bit groggy from sleep.

He checks his watch and chuckles. "Riley, it's already past noon. A bit late for breakfast, don't you think?"

I glance at the clock and realize how much I've been sleeping. "Wow, I didn't even notice. I guess I was really out of it."

Alex smiles warmly. "You needed the rest. But seriously, don't worry about food. How about I order something for us?"

I shake my head, feeling a bit embarrassed. "You don't have to do that, Alex. I'll be fine."

Ignoring my protests, Alex pulls out his phone and starts placing an order. "Too late. It's already done."

I chuckle, feeling a mix of gratitude and amusement. "You're impossible."

He grins, leaning back in his chair. "I try."

As we wait for the food to arrive, I start to feel the exhaustion from the previous night catch up with me again. I excuse myself and head back to my room, intending to just rest my eyes for a moment. Before I know it, I'm dozing off in my bed.

Alex's POV

As I sit at the kitchen table, waiting for the food to arrive, I notice Riley has dozed off in her bed. She looks so peaceful, and I can't help but feel a pang of guilt. I blame myself for not being able to forget her, for wanting to be with her even though I know I shouldn't.

My thoughts swirl with memories and emotions. I want to be with her, to hold her and tell her everything will be okay. But I know it's not that simple. She's with Adam, and I can't come between them. Yet, the feelings I have for her are undeniable.

Involuntarily, I find myself moving closer to her. As I lean in, I gently kiss her forehead, my heart aching with unspoken emotions. Just as I'm about to pull away, Riley stirs and wraps her arms around me, pulling me closer.

Caught off guard, I try to gently remove her hands, but she only tightens her grip, making me fall onto her. My mind races, knowing this is crossing a line, but at the same time, feeling an overwhelming sense of closeness and comfort.
