a week had passed since lan qiren had departed with his elder nephew for the discussion in qinghe, nie sect.

the lessons were canceled, which was exciting news for everyone. except for a few.

during this whole time, wei wuxian wasted himself in creating talismans and talismans; some being protection talismans, some being counterattack, some being the illusion ones. and most important one that seemed to be draining almost all of his energy was the core protection talisman. especially for jiang cheng.

he had locked himself in his and jiang cheng's chamber, focusing on his creations. he barely went out and had been forgetting his meals as well.

the jiang siblings were worried as hell for their brother. jiang cheng was furious when he returned back to his room in the evening after accompanying nie huaisang and wen ning for an archery play to find wei wuxian in the same place as he had left him in the morning; all focused and working on the talismans.

wei wuxian barely slept for the past few days. that too only when jiang cheng would forcefully drag him to bed or jiang yanli would come to scold him. yet still, once jiang cheng went into a deep slumber, wei wuxian would sneak out of the bed and resume his work.

at the current moment, wei wuxian was exhausted. even wen qing was furious as hell. considering the first day the wen siblings arrived in cloud recesses and were instantly met with the sight of the unwell wei wuxian.

she had strictly guided him to take proper care of his nutritional diet and his health but when jiang cheng had found wei wuxian almost passed out on the floor; surrounded by the scattered scrolls and weird incantations marked papers, he had actually dragged wei wuxian's limped body to the infirmary and had called upon wen qing.

the girl had literally threatened him to take proper rest and not fool around or overwork himself. and obviously, wei wuxian nodded, obediently. after all, he had a good experience of wen qing's way of treating her patients. especially the ones like him, who are too troublesome.

and much to everyone's relief, wei wuxian did indeed spend the next three days properly resting. but the very fourth day, he was again found bent over his working desk, completely focused on perfecting the illusion talisman when jiang cheng walked on him.

with an exaggerated sigh and pinching the bridge of his nose, jiang cheng once again dragged wei wuxian out of the chamber.

❛you’ve been working day and night for god knows what. your health is worsening. at least not for me or yourself but for shi-jie’s sake, take some proper rest, you idiot.❜ was what jiang cheng had said while forcefully tugging his shi-xiong along with himself and walked around the premises of the cloud recesses until' they were joined by nie huaisang.

❛jiang-xiong is absolutely right, wei-xiong. you are indeed exhausting yourself to the core.❜ nie huaisang joined in jiang cheng, making wei wuxian sulk upon being lectured by his best friends.

nie huaisang continued, asking in curiosity, ❛by the way wei-xiong, what are you really working on?❜

wei wuxian glanced at nie huaisang, hesitating to answer when jiang cheng answered instead of him.

jiang cheng, ❛he's always experimenting on something. it's nothing new.❜

nie huaisang, on the surface, just let out a simple ‘oh’ and didn't ask anything further but wei wuxian could easily tell that the male was still curious.

but wei-xiong has been working himself to exhaustion for them. it can't just be anything, right?’

wei wuxian sighed. nie huaisang was right but he couldn't tell him or anyone anything. there was no point. no one would believe him. and even if someone did- wei wuxian shook his head with a bitter smile.
