a flash of bright red robes caught his sight the moment he got his consciousness back and opened his eyes.

wei wuxian blinked a few times, adjusting his vision to the light and his surroundings before he turned his head slightly to his right and caught a glimpse of a familiar youth in bright red robes, sitting a little farther from the bed he was laying on. he could also hear the faint sounds of murmurs coming from outside.

as wei wuxian made an attempt to move his body, trying to get up, the familiar youth seemed to have noticed him and for a moment, he hesitated before rushing over to help him.

❛wei... gongzi...❜ a timid yet soft but stammering voice came from the familiar youth. wei wuxian froze, looking at the male clearly as his vision finally was focused.

the youth's complexion was fair - not too pale. his skin was clear of any sort of incantations. his eyes weren't all white but a pair of pretty black pupils that stared back at him. wei wuxian let out a shuddering breath. it was 𝙬𝙚𝙣 𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜.

wen ning, ❛wei gongzi-... are you-are you alright?❜ wei wuxian stared in silence. his eyes stinging with unshed tears as another glimpse of the dreadful past flashed in his mind. he forced himself to focus and nodded his head instead. he didn't believe his speaking abilities anymore.

the murmured voices grew a little louder before subsiding down again. wei wuxian looked at the closed doors as wen ning also followed his line of sight.

wen ning, ❛i'll inform them... them about you.❜ wei wuxian nodded softly, watching as wen ning walked over to the door, sliding it open and peeking his head out as he addressed the figures gathered outside.

all the while, wei wuxian observed the male and thought, 'wen ning is fine. they all are fine. but for how long?'

wei wuxian knew there wasn't much time. things have already started to move accordingly.

he clearly remembered that wen siblings arrived a few days after the jiangs had come. the day of their arrival; wei wuxian clearly remembered having a not so good encounter with wen chao. seems like this time, wei wuxian won't have to face him again so soon. the moment has already been gone and he couldn't be more thankful than that.

all of a sudden, thinking about wen chao, wei wuxian felt a visible panic rising inside him. the flashes of how wen chao and his wen dogs ruined the lotus pier; killed the jiang disciples, jiang fengmian and yu ziyuan. not only that, what they did to jiang cheng and right after how they threw wei wuxian down into the burial mounds ― he shut his eyes tightly, his body visibly trembling as he remembered those three months that he spent in the burial mounds. all the things he had to do to survive, wei wuxian felt fear. no matter what, he can't go back in there.

even if later, the mountain of burial mounds became his home but it still was far away from the actual place he was thrown into. the real burial mounds was a nightmare ― a real hell for him. and he would rather be chased by wild dogs than step back into it again.

his thoughts came to a halt when wen ning returned, followed by a few others figures; all too familiar to his heart.

jiang yanli, ❛a-xian, how are you feeling now?❜ he looked up at the worried expression of his sister and forced out a smile.

wei wuxian, ❛i'm fine, shi-jie. relax.❜ his smile faltered as a familiar voice busted his lie right on his face.

❛what 'fine'?! you are literally stressed and low on nutrition. aren't you eating well these days? how can you say you're fine, huh?!❜

wei wuxian stared at the girl with mixed emotions. he held back his tears as he couldn't stop but found his lips curving up into a small smile.

no matter what the situation is or what timeline, 𝙬𝙚𝙣 𝙦𝙞𝙣𝙜 will always be strict as always when it comes to her job and her patients.
