Season 2, Episode 5: Chupacabra
November 1st, Day 69
—————
RORY HATED THE taste of smoke in her mouth.
The world was only getting more blurry each day with the only colors being green and brown. Her stomach turned and she wanted to vomit, but she couldn't look away. It was like she was running on delay; disconnected from her own body. Her own hands, she couldn't see them, but they were warm, the heat only going up to her forearms before turning cold. She blinked, and her vision darkened.
She woke up with a jolt. Her whole body ached.the air was sweet, the smell of burned things filled the air, and it hurt her to breathe, but it filled her lungs. She opened her arms fully and her vision swam; she eventually focused on her surroundings. She could see shapes; legs, boots, grass disappeared under feet.
She was being held.
She groaned and rubbed her nose, glancing around to the side. The person stops abruptly.
"Rory? Are you okay?"
She couldn't hear fully and the words sounded disortiented. She tried to speak, 'where's Kat' and 'let me go', but she couldn't even get one syllable out. Her mind was going fuzzy; she closed her eyes for a little bit. Rory let out a sigh, her body falling limp to whoever held her.
"Jesus Christ-"
------------
"Why did you sleep outside?"
Hearing Glenn's voice, Nicky's eyes snapped open. She had fallen asleep on the steps of the porch, not wanting to sleep anywhere near Lori. She had found something out last night, and she was immediately becoming guilty. Lori was pregnant, and Nicky shouldn't have cared but she did. Who could think of having a baby in an apocalypse? No sane person would. What if there was a herd like the last one? How would they be able to hide with a baby who was screaming relentlessly?
"There's tents for a reason." Glenn sat down beside her. "Did you miss Carl? Did you want to be closer to him?"
"No," Nicky scoffed before lowering her head. "Well, kinda-I miss him a little. I just need to think."
"What about?"
Lori's pregnancy. "A lot . . . nothing important."
Glenn rested his palm against her shoulder. "Don't worry so much, okay? You don't want wrinkles by the time you can learn to drive."
"I'd look like you," Nicky scoffed.
Glenn chuckled dryly, "Wow. Thanks."
