The sun shined brightly in a very subtle white coloured bedroom in the heart of West Delhi. The chirping of the birds could be heard outside the dainty little open window on the corner of the room right beside the bed. The owner of the bedroom sighed as he sat on his bed drying his wet hair from the shower. He was confused as to what to wear to make the journey comfortable. He chose a plane shirt and black jeans with a denim jacket on top. As he got himself all ready, he heard a voice calling him from downstairs."Virat." His mother screamed
"Yes ma." Virat answered
"Come down soon or you are going to miss your bus." Virat's mother warned in a very Indian mother fashion.
"Coming." Virat hurried down the stairs with his suitcaseHe touched his mother and father's feet to seek their blessings.
"Don't trouble your cousin too much." His father warned
"I won't baba." Virat chuckled
"Be good. And study hard." His mother bless him
"I will ma." Virat nodded as he bid his final goodbye byesOnce he settled comfortably in the bus, he thought about the journey that lay ahead of him. He was going to live with his cousin who he had not seen from a long time in Mumbai. He still was a little disappointed that all his friends got colleges in Delhi itself and he didn't. He too wanted to stay with his parents and take care of them. Instead he had to go to Mumbai to live with his cousin who seemed to be doing very well. Being a Delhite he was not particularly fond of Mumbai. He thought that people of Mumbai were snobbish and thought highly of themselves from all the movies and internet shows. He was worried how he would fit in between them in college. Would he be able to make any friends there he wondered.
He planted himself on his window seat in the aircraft with excitement and fear in his heart. He watched as a couple entered just at the last minute before the doors were about to close. They caught their breath as they sat on the seats beside him. Virat shifted uncomfortably as two men who held hands sat next to him. Though bl was a common practice in India nowadays he still couldn't get used to it. Not that he hated those people or didn't support them, he did. He just found the idea of finding love in the same gender a little unconventional. How could people find a person of the same gender appealing he always wondered. How could they make each other feel good or be fully complete in themselves he always questioned. He knew he couldn't do so or so he thought.
The couple beside him sensed his uncomfortableness. They were open minded young adults themselves. They chuckled as they saw the young boy lost in his thoughts that were about them. His face revealed all the questions that bubbled inside his head.
"Anything wrong?" The one on the aisle seat named Mitch asked
"No. Nothing." Virat replied politely
"You can tell us you know." The person on middle seat spoke
"I am Mitch and he is Cam, my husband. You are?" Mitch introduced them
"Virat." Vi said
"So what is troubling you?" Cam nudged him
"We promise we won't take any offence." Mitch pretended to swear
"I just had a few questions." Virat hesitated
"Go on." Cameron said in very sweet voice
"Don't you feel weird loving someone from the same gender." Virat asked very carefully
"No. Because love doesn't see gender." Mitch replied
"We complete each other in every way possible. We love each other quirks and habits." Cam continued
"How did you know you are in love?" Virat questioned
"When you find it difficult to breathe without them, then you know." Cam replied
"Don't let gender ever restrict love." Mitch said while looking at his husband
"That's beautiful." Virat smiled as the rest of the journey went peacefully.(Modern family characters. I absolutely love Mitch and Cameron.)
The cold air of the monsoon season hit his face as soon as the doors to the exit opened. Virat's eyes wondered around as he looked for the car his cousin was going to send for him. Just as he was about to accept that his brother forgot about his arrival, he saw a black Porsche parked right outside the gate. The driver hurried with the sign that read Mr. Virat Kohli. Virat was shocked at the car that his cousin had sent for him. He quickly introduced himself to the driver and they began their journey on the flooded roads of Mumbai.
Virat looked around as he was absorbing the energy of a different city. He was used to jams on Delhi roads but this was something totally different. The high rise buildings and the street vendors also had a unique vibe. The feeling of being next to the sea or living so close to the beach was something he had never experienced. He took a deep breath as he rested his back in the luxurious car.
After what seemed like an hour, the driver finally stopped. He helped him get his luggage out and pointed to the floor he had to go on. Virat looked at the penthouse the driver pointed to. He had been told his cousin was rich but this was a different level of rich. He had thought he would have a nice house but not a mansion that too on the 20th floor. He dejectedly looked at his casual clothing before stepping in.His fingers quivered a little as he pressed the bell icon. His cousin opened the door with a warm smile. Virat immediately felt at ease.
