Age (Hayes Grier)

•Chapter 25•

It was an August night. We were all siting around the fire. We talked about the memories we all had. All the great and bad moments. I was siting next to Hayes while his both arms around my waist and my head on his shoulder. LJ was siting on Nash's lap. Skylynn was holding my hand while her head on my upper arm. When we were looking at the fire, we seen the Foushee's sitting down on a log. I look at Luke. I haven't seen him in about 2 years. He looked at me with sorrow eyes.

"Can I talk to you, Edith?" Hayes looked at me and Luke. I nod. I kiss Hayes on the lips. We walked inside the house.

"Look, I just wanna say I'm sorry. I made you do things when LJ needed you more. When we went to that party, and LJ got that scar on his lip. I felt like it was all my fault. And if I didn't make you go to that party LJ wouldn't have gotten it."

"Luke, its okay. He fell while going down the stairs. And Nash was in restroom. So it wasn't your fault or Nash."

"But I made you go to that party. We could've been cuddling back at home while watching a movie and LJ with us. We would still be together." He grabs my hand.

"Stop! That was about two years ago." I pull my hand away from him. "If you think I will get back with you, your wrong. I'm with Hayes. Something that have always wanted. I will always love you, Luke. But we didn't work out the first, we wont work out again."

"Okay." With that I left. I sat back to where I was.

"You okay?" Hayes asked. I look him into his eyes and I didn't know what to say.

"I don't know." Hayes grabbed my hand.

"Whatever is wrong just know I'm here for you." I nod.

"I'm gonna go for walk." I got up.

"It's too late for that, Edith." Nash said while LJ was asleep in his arms.

"I'll go with you." Hayes said. I smile. He grabs my hand and we go walking around the block and to the dock.

"Are you okay? You've been really quiet the past hour after you talked to Luke?" I start crying. "Did he do something?! I swear if he did, I'm gonna-"

"Your gonna do nothing, Hayes. Luke told me that if it weren't for going to that party and LJ getting that scar on his lip. We would still be together. It just reminded me of how bad of a parent I was. LJ was only 1 and he was already walking. And when he fell, it made me think, I can't do this on my own. Nash was taking care of him. And I was at that stupid party! He was just a little baby." I start crying more. I cry on his shoulder. He had his arms wrapped around me while rubbing my back.

"There. There. There. It wasn't your fault, or Luke's or Nash's. He was just a little baby and he didn't really know what he was doing. Don't put this on yourself. But not everyone is gonna be a perfect parent. Your gonna have trouble at some points. Your gonna treat him like he's a baby the rest of his life. But one day, he's gonna be 20 something and getting married. Having his first child. And he's gonna have a family. He's gonna be proud of you on how far you took him. Being able to look back at the moments you guys had together. It was a mistake but we all recover from it." We were sitting on the dock with our legs in the water and looking at the full moon.

"Whoever thought that an 18 year old boy like you would say those things to a 21 year old woman like me." I say looking at him.

"Because your the love of my life and I know when you need a pep talk." I smile at what he says. I kiss him on the lips.

"It's getting late. Let's go back." I say while standing up. We walk back home hand in hand. He makes me happy. And he truly knows how to love me. He's something I need in my life. Before we enter the house, we just stand there under the moon.

"I love you, Edith. Nothing will ever change that."

"I love you too." He kisses me. Me and him have been through a lot. I don't want to ever let him go. We went inside. I went to my room. LJ was asleep on the bed. I cuddle next to him.

"I love you, Luke Jake Summers. I promise to never disappoints you." With that I fell asleep.
