Don't do love, don't do friends

I'm only after success

Don't need a relationship

I'll never soften my grip

Kocho Shinobu, your teacher and guide, now stood on the opposing side of you; for the first time, you wanted to protect a demon, while she was there to finish it off. You felt a deep sense of connection to the demon girl, rendering you awestruck when she only softly snored in her brother's arms. She wasn't trying to harm anyone, her presence was nothing but kind.

She was different, and you could feel it.

But your master surely couldn't.

Her eyebrow twitched as she stared at you; trying to maintain her sweet smile serving as a facade, which was getting harder with each passing minute. Her apprentice and friend was protecting the thing she hated the most. She couldn't believe her own eyes.

Perhaps, it was only a misunderstanding?

"Tomioka-san, move out of the way!" Shinobu stated, pointing her sharp blade in his direction. Giyuu however, his mind was still stuck on the words she'd uttered before.

"I am not hated," he insisted, looking down at the soil underneath his sandals. The others were dumbfounded, looking at him as if he's grown a horn or something.

"Ah, my bad. It appears you're not yet aware of that fact yet. I'm sorry for saying too much," your master stated, sweat dropping as she tried to suppress a grin.

You badly wanted to interfere but held yourself back. You didn't want to oppose your teacher, knowing just how disappointed she would be. With a sigh, you sucked it up and waited for this whole interaction to be done with.

Tomioka was left in a state of hollowness, looking at Shinobu as if she just ruined his whole life with only a few sentences. 'Poor he, it must be hard not having friends. I know how it feels like, at least..'

"[Name]-chan, boy, step aside! The thing you're protecting there is a demon, you know? It's dangerous!" She exclaimed, specifically looking at you.

"N-No! This... Well, you're not wrong, but- This is my little sister! That's why—!" Tanjiro stumbled over his words, frantically shaking his head as he stared at the woman in caution. She hummed, looking between you and him, her expression deeply evoking a sense of false remedy.

"I understand!" she exclaimed cheerfully, unknowingly getting Tanjiro's hopes up. "I'll kill her with a gentle toxin then; that way, she won't have to suffer!" she chirped.

Tanjiro was left devastated by her complex, yet in a sense simple words. She was cruel, but he knew her hatred stemmed from something serious. He couldn't hold it against her. Everyone in this world had a trauma they wished didn't happen, including him.
