A long, long time ago, the gods descended upon this world-our world-seeking excitement.

They chose to live among mortals in the Lower World, forsaking their divine power to experience life with all the hardships and inconveniences it entails.

Their only gift to mortals was the power to fight monsters, a blessing they called 'Falna.'

The mortals who received this power became their servants, forming what we now know as 'Familias'.

"Familia, huh? Interesting." My monotone voice broke the silence in my rented room at the Benevolent Mistress's tavern.

'A Familia is basically a group formed by a god,' I mused, carefully flipping the pages of the old book, wary of tearing its delicate pages.

The ancestors of the current generation didn't reject the gods when they arrived; in fact, they revered them, eager to receive their blessings.

'In other words, it's a mutual exchange: You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours. The so-called "servants" aren't exactly that after all,' I pondered as I continued to read.

While the gods reside in the Lower World, they can't use their divine powers, known as 'Arkanam'. It's a self-imposed rule from shortly after their arrival. Without Arkanam, they rely on mortals for food and money.

"So these gods basically rely on their so-called 'children' to earn money for them while they do whatever they please," I remarked aloud, my voice echoing slightly in the closed room.

Those who make a living in the Dungeon are all called 'adventurers.'

I flipped another page, my eyes scanning the new content.

'Falna' is the blessing that gods bestow upon their children when they join a Familia. Those with Falna gain superhuman physical prowess and heightened senses.

The Falna manifests itself as something called 'Status', which comprises various parameters like basic abilities, development abilities, magic, skills, and the overall level. It physically appears as a tattoo-like mass of text on the body, detailing all its characteristics and the corresponding Familia's emblem.

There's also something called 'Excelia', which is essentially experience. While it's invisible to the 'children,' gods can somehow sense it when a miracle occurs, like slaying a monster. Excelia fuels a person's growth through the blessing.

Upon receiving Falna, a person gains five basic abilities: Strength, Endurance, Dexterity, Agility, and Magic. Each ability has ten ranks-S, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I-within each level. S is the strongest, and I is the weakest. The number next to the rank shows the exact ability level: 0 to 99 is the I range, 100 to 199 is H, and so on. The absolute maximum is 999, and it becomes increasingly difficult to earn points as one grows stronger.

Level is the most important statistic in a status. Every one of the basic abilities gets a major boost when the level goes up. There is a huge difference between Level One and Level Two. Level Two is significantly stronger.

Basic abilities reset to I0 at every rank-up, although those gained before each rank-up remain as an invisible base.

Development abilities are special abilities that have a chance of appearing after every rank-up, starting from Level 2. Like basic abilities, development abilities are also categorized from I to S, but they are much harder to train and do not reset to I at each new rank-up.

Next are 'Skills', inherent abilities that can be discovered by those who have received a Falna. Unlike development abilities, skills can appear regardless of level. They can enhance specific basic abilities, magic, and actions. The chance of discovering a skill is rare, and those with unique effects are considered rare skills.
