"Have you heard? Someone went missing in the village!"
"What? The newcomer from the outside?"
"This has to be a youkai's doing!"
"Do we have to inform the Hakurei Shrine Maiden?"
"Miss shrine maiden wouldn't care about this any more, the only thing we can do is pray."
Idiots. I mumbled this to myself, as I walked past them.
...
"Huh? I do not wish to share my name, as some intelligent individuals might want my head if I spoiled anything wrong. I am just an ordinary merchant living inside the Human Village." I looked at this person in front of me. This individual dressed in a white lab coat, as if she just came back from some sort of chemical experiments. A blue and white marine uniform beneath the coat, even a white marine hat on her head. "Oh, you ask why this village is called the Human Village? Well that's because this is Gensokyo – the land full of all kinds of creatures. I am really surprised you do not know this." I said.
The person looked at me in a strange way, as if what I had just said was out of my mind. "What's wrong? Did you finally realize that you are in Gensokyo?" I said, in a sarcasm tone. She continued with her look. "Hold on, you really don't know where you are right now?" I returned to how I normally speak, I would even say it was in a more serious tone than I have ever before. "Tell me where you are from." I asked her, to which I received the answer of "Kyoto". "Kyoto? I have never heard of that name before. Is that another restaurant near Moriya Shrine or something? They really wanted to gain more faith either way." I brought up a joke, trying to avoid the situation turning into an uncontrollable state. Though she still seemed confused, shook her head yet again.
"Well then, you, come inside the store." I stopped smiling, pushed her inside my store, and closed the door around noon. "I hope you are not joking, or else I WILL kick you out if you were lying back then." Pulling up my sleeves, I showed her my muscles from carrying all the goods around. "So speak the truth, are you completely unaware of the creatures around here, like youkai or ghosts." The person immediately shook her head after I said it. I sighed, asked her a question in a desperate tone: "On a manual car, which pedal controls the brake?" When I asked this, I wanted to exclude the only answer in my mind, but the result was disappointing. "Middle, alright then." I said, pulling down my cover as a Gensokyo resident.
...
Twenty years ago, I was still a citizen in Tokyo. Unlike how I appear to be right now – a merchant who seems stupid on the first look, I was actually educated to university degrees. In fact, I was one of the best in my department. One day, while I was taking a visit to my parents' home, me, alongside my car, was teleported on top of a mountain. It was as if I blinked for a second, then immediately I appeared between the woods with my engine stopped working. I was and still am glad the engine malfunctioned, or else the car would have hit a rock.
I stepped out and looked around me, there I saw the very village you are in right now, and trust me, my situation was no better than yours right now. You should be glad you found a comrade from the outside, or else you would be facing issues like different currencies or ideologies. Either way, my life here started at the bottom of the valley. I had to take three jobs everyday, or else I would not have enough money to support the debt on my house.
On my journey to become a merchant, I saw many dangers you can encounter in Gensokyo: Youkai that eat people – well that was gone since the Hakurei Shrine Maiden would exterminate them; ghosts that wanders around the trails I need to take; even vampires! Real vampires that drink fresh blood! Well, not really as it was contained in a glass. Who is the Hakurei Shrine Maiden? Hold up, that would be discussed later. The battles in Gensokyo follow the Danmaku rule, so then humans would not get hurt – well for the most times.
So, the shrine maiden. The Hakurei Shrine Maiden is the one who exterminates individuals who appear to be rule breakers. Rules such as murdering and consuming humans, becoming youkai or equivalent beings as a human, and more. You only have to know the first two, since they are the absolute red lines you must never cross. If you wish for a shelter since you wandered into Gensokyo, I would recommend the two shrines for the first month or two. However, it is up to them if they would want to keep you. Hey actually, if you want you can join me! My house is too big for one anyways. You want to pay the debt? Not needed, just do the bills for me, my brain has been too rusty in Gensokyo anyways.

In the end, me and the newcomer had some fun discussing the outside world. She was almost like my buddy just after some hours. When I asked her where She came from, but seriously this time, She gave a different answer. "SCP Foundation? What is that?" She showed me her identification card, which has a huge label of "SCP Foundation" and some text like "Level-2 researchers" or something like that. "I have never heard of that organization... Hey, are you some kind of agent?" I covered my face with my wide sleeve, as if it was a cape. She laughed at my reaction, and shook her head, but also nodded her head. "A shadowy organization... that's... surprising." I replied, after knowing the purpose of said foundation. "Not gonna lie, if I was them, I would really just destroy all of those anomalies, if they cause so much problem. For the future development of humanity? Eh, I wouldn't agree with it. Speaking of technology, do not try to advance the technology here however." I turned from an easygoing tone into a serious tone. "Due to youkai requiring faith to survive – essentially letting humans be scared of them, technology is not something you may advance here. I learned this from the Hiedas, just do not discuss this to anyone else. It will get you into some consequences you have never witnessed in your entire life. This is not a joke. Why am I explaining this to you? Because I trust you, and you were like me twenty years ago." I patted her left shoulder, as a way of stating my trust in her.
"Anyways, the sun is going down soon." I looked at her and said, "Researcher Chiyuri Kitashirakawa, if you have no other words, I will let you be."

(From now on, the story will be given in an alternate reality game way, which the stories might be associated with the former, but the order is randomized. The first two stories only serve as the introduction to the plot and settings.)
(To differentiate between the protagonists inside and outside of Gensokyo, the two will NEVER appear in the same story, so it is up to you to guess who the protagonist of this story is.)
(Some dialogues done by certain characters are encrypted in certain ways i.e. DES, Caesar, etc., so it is still similar to an ARG but no extra links or anything.)
