April opened her eyes again. The scene had changed. It was dark, the only light coming from the group dancing around the fire with sparklers. A pounding bass line echoed through the forest disrupting the nighttime sounds. Sighing, April finally got up, her legs fast asleep from lack of use. April blinked her eyes adjusting to the lack of light around her as Freddie stumbled over to her.
"April! You've been knocked out all day." He told her, shouting over the music.
"Hungover." April deadpanned as Freddie held out a spliff to her. April placed it between her lips and took a half-hearted hit of the drug.
"I am so fucked. Do I look fucked?" Freddie slurred taking the white stick from her. "Hey, April. Umm at Thomas's thing. What you said I..."
"It doesn't matter. Go dance with Katie!" April said. "I think she feels left out." April patted his shoulder walking over to kneel by the orange flames that licked the air.
"You alright, April?" Emily sat down next to April with her sparkler still fizzling.
"Not in the party mood Ems." April sighed, eyes reflecting the chaos contained within such a tiny thing as the campfire.
"Effy still has some shrooms, if you want some." Emily said sipping the can of alcohol in her hand.
"I'm good." April said, remembering the last time she took mushrooms and the two weeks in intensive care she'd spent after getting her stomach pumped.
"Who moved the stuff?" Effy asked standing next to the tree April had guarded since they'd wandered into the woods.
"What?" Katie asked, pissed off that her quiet party had turned into a mushroom-filled rave.
"Who moved the stuff? The bags are gone." Effy slurred.
"What are you talking about? For God's sake. This is so not funny, guys." She shouted at everyone seeing that the bags were missing.
"Chill out, April did you..." Freddie started talking only to be cut off by a gunshot.
April froze.
Not again. Not again. Not again.
"Turn the music off!"
"April. I don't like it!" Pandora whispered.
"It's okay, Panda." April gulped though she wasn't very certain it was okay.
The shots rang closer.
April didn't move, her hands going into her hair covering her ears to block out the chaotic noises around her.
