HARMONY||After further discussion, Harmony and the Hargreaves traveled through time, but instead of landing near April 1st, 2019, Harmony found herself in Dallas on September 16th, 1963.
She shot out from a blue light in the sky, crashing down into an alley. Scrambling to her feet, she frantically tried to figure out where she was. "Five?" she mumbled under her breath, frustration mixing with confusion.
Suddenly, a bright flash from behind made her freeze. She spun around to see a man standing at a window, camera in hand. Their eyes met for a split second before he panicked, ducking out of sight and disappearing behind the curtain.
Her brows furrowed, but she decided to let it go, knowing she had bigger problems to deal with. She needed to find a way back. Without a briefcase and with her mother, The Handler, not exactly being an option for help at the moment, she was on her own.
She walked out of the alley, her mind racing with questions. Had any of the Hargreaves been sent to this time as well? She scanned the unfamiliar streets, hoping for some sign of them, but knowing all too well she might be on her own.
Her eyes scanned the area until they landed on a newspaper stand. She quickly grabbed a copy, her heart racing as she checked the date and time. Just as the reality of the situation began to sink in, her breath caught—Diego's face stared back at her from the front page.
What the hell did you do? she thought to herself, reading the headline that described Diego as a disturbed man armed with multiple knives, arrested outside 1026 N. Beckley. He'd been sent to an insane asylum. Harmony scoffed, not entirely surprised. Shaking her head, she decided to track him down.
When she finally reached the asylum, Harmony walked in with persistence. Approaching the front desk, she calmly asked for a Diego Hargreaves, claiming to be his niece. Relief washed over her as the nurse, without hesitation, believed the lie.
She was led to the visitors' room—a cold, sterile space with a metal table and a large mirror in front of her. Harmony could feel the eyes of unseen observers on the other side of the glass. She sat in silence, her mind racing, until the door creaked open. A nurse in all white escorted Diego into the room. His eyes filled with pure shock as they landed on her, and for a moment, it seemed as if time stood still.
As Diego sat down in front of her, Harmony couldn't help but smile. The corners of her lips curled upward, despite the chaos of their situation.
"Where the hell have you been?" Diego snapped, his voice sharp with frustration. He'd been waiting for her and five for weeks, and she'd finally decided to show up now, after all this time. "And where the hell is Five?" he demanded before Harmony even had a chance to speak.
She chuckled softly at his intensity, shaking her head. "Nice to see you too, Diego..."
He scoffed, rolling his eyes as Harmony chuckled softly. "I saw your face on the papers," she said with a grin. "I figure it's from a few weeks ago."
Diego shot her a stern look. "Why are you always so damn calm all the time?" he asked, though it was clear he didn't expect an answer. His cuffed hands reached up to run through his hair as he sighed heavily. Harmony watched him carefully, her expression softening as the weight of his frustration settled between them.
"That's how long ago I got here," he added after a few seconds, his voice low and tired. "September 1st"
"Yeah, I figured," Harmony replied. "I got here not that long ago. Have you run into any of the others?" she asked, momentarily forgetting that Diego had been stuck in an asylum for the past few days.
Diego scoffed, his frustration evident. "Five's not with you?"
Harmony shook her head. "No," she said quietly, the weight of that realization settling in.
"Well, you better figure out a way to find him," Diego growled through gritted teeth, the tension clear in his voice.
Harmony raised her hands slightly, trying to calm him. "I just got here, Diego," she said softly, resisting the urge to use her powers on him. She could easily soothe his anger, but she knew better than to manipulate him like that.
Diego, catching himself, took a deep breath. He knew Harmony would never hurt anyone—if anything, she kept them all grounded, more than she probably realized.
His voice softened. Harmony had always been the nicest of them, maybe because she wasn't raised a Hargreaves, or maybe her powers kept her from feeling anything but calm. Whatever it was, it made her different, and in moments like this, he couldn't help but be grateful for it.
"Just... just try getting me out of here, will you?" Diego muttered, his frustration softened by the plea in his voice.
Harmony nodded reluctantly. "I'll do the best I can."
Before she could say more, the nurse who had brought Diego in grabbed him forcefully by the arm, announcing that visiting time was over. Harmony gave the nurse a small nod and then turned back to Diego, offering him a reassuring smile.
"I'll see you as soon as possible," she promised, her voice steady even as uncertainty gnawed at her.
That was 4 weeks ago..
