FIVE||

Harmony had left a few minutes ago, claiming she had some unfinished business to take care of. Five watched her go, his brows furrowing in suspicion.

Something about the way she said it didn't sit right with him, but with everything going on, he brushed it off. He didn't have the luxury to focus on Harmony's vague excuses, not when the apocalypse was looming.

Still, a part of him couldn't shake the nagging thought that she was hiding something—something important.

He sat in silence, staring at the spot where she'd stood, his mind racing. "Unfinished business," he muttered under his breath. He'd heard that excuse before, but never from her.

Harmony wasn't one to keep secrets—or at least, she hadn't been. Not before. Now, things felt different. She felt different.

Five exhaled sharply, pushing the thoughts away for now. There were more pressing matters to deal with. Besides, he reasoned, if Harmony was up to something, he'd figure it out soon enough.

HARMONY||

Ironically enough, the Handler, Lila, and Harmony stood outside of a cream-colored house, the contrast of their crimson footwear stark against the pastel surroundings.

The Handler, ever poised and calculating, shifted slightly in her red heels, her expression unreadable.

Lila, arms crossed with her usual air of defiance, rocked on the heels of her red boots, while Harmony, the youngest-looking of the trio, fidgeted slightly in her red Goose shoes, her gaze fixed on the door in front of them.

"Why are we here?" Lila broke the silence, her voice casual but laced with confusion. Cats meowing in the distance as they surrounded the house.

The Handler smiled, her lips curling in a way that suggested she knew far more than she was letting on. "The same as always, dear. We send a message." She glanced at Harmony, before glancing back at Lila. "You were always a climber, darling."

Harmony's face remained neutral, but inside, her thoughts churned. The Handler's control was suffocating, but Harmony had learned how to play her part—just enough to avoid suspicion, just enough to keep Five safe.

But for how long?

LILA||

Lila climbed the beige cream-colored house, her breath coming in short bursts as she paused every so often to catch it. Each step felt heavier, but dedication pushed her onward. Finally, as she reached the roof, she stood still, gazing down at her sister and mother below.

Harmony, standing with her arms behind her back, was already looking up at Lila. That unsettling feeling crawled up Lila's spine—Harmony always knew exactly what she felt. It was like having her thoughts read aloud, and it made her feel exposed in a way she hated.

Lila narrowed her eyes slightly, but the unease lingered. She shifted her gaze toward the Handler, who stood with a faint, knowing smirk, waving up at her almost mockingly. The Handler never missed a chance to exert her subtle control, to remind them who was in charge.

Turning away from both of them, Lila focused on the task at hand. She moved towards the chimney and, with one final glance down, threw the tube inside, the small message tumbling down into the abyss below.

Lila climbed down no doubt much quicker than she had gone up, her feet finding a faster rhythm as her frustration built. As she neared the ground, she caught the sharp, clipped tones of the Handler's voice cutting through the stillness.

"You need to make sure you're in the right place at the right time," the Handler scolded, her voice laced with condescension. "No more little... disappearances."

Harmony stood silently, her expression unreadable, arms still behind her back. She didn't react outwardly, but there was a tension in her posture that even Lila could feel. It was the same tension that simmered beneath every word and glance shared between Harmony and the Handler—a web of control, manipulation, and unspoken defiance.

Lila hit the ground, landing softly beside them. She didn't say anything, but the air between the three of them felt charged. Harmony finally responded, her voice quiet but firm. "I've always been in the right place. You just haven't been paying attention."

The Handler's eyes narrowed, her smile growing colder.
