"You've got this" I mumble to myself as I step into the half full classroom. I make my way to the middle of the class and take a seat near the window.

I roll my eyes when I notice the two bodyguards that Papa got me. They're loitering around the premises, is that even allowed?! I need ot have a talk with him about this.

"Quiet down class.. take out your books" Uhm, okay? I look around the classroom and anyone and everyone is minding their own business. I can tell that I'm not going to make any friends in here, they all look stuck up and bougie.

I pull out my scribbler since I'll only be getting my books next week. I copy down the notes and I can already feel myself dosing off because this man sure does take his time as he speaks.

Before I know it the period ends and I waste no time in packing up and heading for the door. I start navigating my way throughout the corridor until I find myself in a gardern.

"How's your first day going princess?" I stop walking when Mahlori asks. "Don't call me that infront of phambi kwabantu" I hiss out and he laughs. "Is anyone giving you trouble?"

"Even if I were to tell you, what would you do?" I raise an eyebrow at him. "You're underestimating me, I can fight, Mihlali" He rolls his eyes. "Mhm" I sarcasticly say.

"Let me love and leave you" He turns to walk away.  "Before you disappear, do you know any libraries in here?" I ask. "Uhm... Eish" He rubs the side of his head. "Mahlori" I scowl. "I'll text you the directions, neh" I walk away from him.

I get to my next class and luckily it's accounting and I do love me some accounting so I had to be wide awake the entire lesson. I'm not letting my grades slip even one percent, Papa would decapitate me, literally.

The bell rings for break and I head back to the garden but I find myself a secluded spot and have my lunch.

"Argh Mama" I slump down onto the couch with my head tipped back. "I'm guessing your day went well" She teases. "I'm so tired and my feet are swelling as we speak"

"And you know why! Because you're not fit" Mahlori mocks. "Haha, very funny" I throw the cushion at him but he ducks. "You need to work on your aim"

"How was school. I need an update phela" Mama settles down on the couch. "Apart from the 'Are you new" 's I got, it went fine" I answer. "Have you made any friends yet?" This woman.

"Not yet, Mama" I wave her off. "Mhm... Your father might want a progress report tonight" She laughs. "Nawe you must put your husband on a leash, Nomasonto"

"Ngizokushaya wena" (i'll hit you) She clicks her tongue in annoyance. "Ncese mah" (sorry) He laughs. "Mxm. Your brother's are coming home tonight... It was meant to be a suprise but I can't seem to keep anything to myself these days so...."

"Really?" My face lights up. "Yes, if not today then tommorrow morning" I haven't seen my brothers in almost three months now. "Go and change your uniform so we can get started with dinner"

"Just two minutes Mama, I'm coming" I rush up to my room, changing my uniform. I find myself seated on my bed, dosing off.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

"Makhanani" My body immediately jots up at the mention of that name but I roll my eyes when I realise that it's just my brothers. "Y'all are so wrong for that"

"We've been trying to get you to wake up for a while now" Boti Malwande, one of my brothers says. "Well that was not cool" I roll my eyes at them. "That's why we did it" Boti Mixo scowls.

"Mama is down there complaining since you made her cook and clean all by herself" Oh my days. "I literally fell asleep, I didn't do it on purpose"

"That's not what she thinks" They both laugh and I get out of bed, walking down to the kitchen. "Futhi Bazomangala uma ngibuyela ekhaya kanti bayangihlukumeza" (then they'll be surprised when I go back home but they're overworking me)

She's muttering to herself as she wipes the dishes and puts them away. "Mama" I squeak out. "Hhayi hlukana nami" She clicks her tongue. You, Lomfazi. "Okay keh"

"Sorry Mama. I fell asleep" I try to justify my actions but she walks out. "Mihlali, Umenzeni uMah wami?" (What did you do to my mother?)

"Nothing. She's just being dramatic" I jump into his arms and he spins me in the air before putting me down. "I missed you so much" He chuckles.

"No you didn't. You would cone and visit me if you did" I glare at him. "Work" That's their answer for everything. "Okay" I guess work is more important that I am"

"Maybe but you come second so don't stress" Mxm. "How come we didn't get a greeting like that" I heavily sigh in response. "Because you called me by that name"!

"Makhanani" They say before laughing amoungst themselves. "Leave me and my name alone" I wave them off. "Your father has summoned you" Here we go again.

I quickly make my way into the living room and there he is, seated on his couch, with a newspaper in hand and a glass of water on the coffee table. "Tshama hansi" (sit down) He orders.

I immediately sit causing my brothers to snicker. He doesn't say anything, a few minutes pass before he puts the newspaper down, takes a sip of his water and turns to us.

"Ni pfumelele sesi wa nwina ku a sungula ku nghena xikolo na Mahlori" He starts off. (i allowed for your sister to start schooling with Mahlori)

"Papa-" He cuts off Boti Mixo. "Let me finish speaking first" He holds up his hand.

"So now tell us. How was your first day at school?"
