Chapter 4: Getting Into Trouble

Y/N: "Bright and early, my ass."

You were currently standing in the adventurer's guild, having been told by Kazuma the prior day to meet there with the party early in the morning. You sighed.

The guild wasn't particularly busy, only a few people sitting down and chatting, but you enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. You found it the most cozy place in this new world. 

Y/N: "Not the worst thing that could've happened, since it's still fun to hang out here." 

You were scoping out the scene of the guild, when two familiar faces flagged you down from a table in the corner. 

Dust: "Hey, Y/N! Long time no see, compadre!"

You waved and smiled, and he made a gesture to come over. You obliged, and were now sat next to Keith, with Dust across from you and a girl you'd never seen before next to him.

Y/N: "What's up, guys? Get into any trouble? Don't tell me you need me to bail you out from yesterday."

Keith: "Nah, nothing like that. We were just talking about you, actually."

Y/N: "...Is that right? What about me?"

Y/N: "Being talked about by Dust and Keith usually means either being labelled as an accomplice or a being part of a new plan to annoy girls. Not good."

Dust: "We were talking about a plan, and thought that your skillset would be perfect for it. That is, if the rumors are true."

Then the girl spoke.

???: "These idiots have been chatting it up about you and Kazuma since yesterday. I think they're just excited to finally find people on their wavelength."

You blinked. 

Y/N: "That's gotta be an insult."

???: "Oh, sorry! Where are my manners? Stupid! I'm Rin! I'm a member of Dust and Keith's party and an intermediate mage!"

Y/N: "Right. Nice to meet you. I'm...guessing you already know my name."

You had learned many things about this place during your time in Axel so far. One of them was of course to avoid association with the people you were currently associating with, and another was that rumors tend to travel quickly around these parts. 

Y/N: "At this point, these guys could think I can shoot rainbow lasers out of my eyes. Who knows what's been going around since that fiasco with the slime yesterday."

Keith: "Is Kazuma with you? We were hoping to be able to ask both of you."

Being lumped in with Kazuma, especially while hanging with this crowd, was a truly damning statement. You decided to look past it. 

Y/N: "You know how he is, that man Kazuma is built different. I think his house would have to be burning down to get him to wake up in the morning."

House burning down. 

House burning.

Burning.

Y/N: "Hey now, wait a minute-"

Before you were allowed to continue with that dangerous thought, the doors to the guild were swung wide, and in walked the two female members of your party. Dust and Keith caught on quick. 

Dust: "Alright man, thanks for the talk, but we'll leave you to it now." 

Keith: "Make sure to come find us when you have time. We'll explain it to you then. And bring Kazuma. See ya!"
