Chapter 2: Firestarter

In an open field with few trees but a lot of giant toads, two men are furiously fighting for their lives. A woman is watching. 

Kazuma: "HELP ME, PLEASE! I'M GONNA DIE!" 

Kazuma was currently running for his life away from a giant toad.

Y/N: "Well yeah, I warned you about this. The toads are pretty resistant to physical attacks."

Kazuma: "AND?" 

Y/N: "AND, all you brought to fight them was a tiny sword?" 

Kazuma: "Toads are supposed to be easy to fight! Beginner monsters! Cannon fodder!"

Aqua: "Aww, gonna cry, Kazuma?" 

Kazuma: "You would be absolutely no better off than me in this situation!" 

The party was currently in this situation because of a kill quest they had accepted the previous day. Kazuma and Y/N both thought it looked pretty easy, since all they had to do was kill five of the giant toads. Unfortunately, as they are currently finding out, they were wrong. 

Kazuma: "Y/N! Are you just gonna stand there or are you gonna help me?!"

Y/N: "I dunno man, you look pretty funny right now. Pfft." 

Kazuma: "I thought we were bros! Help! PLEASE!"

He said, as he tripped on a rock and his toad began closing ground a bit quicker.

Y/N: "Alright, fine, fine. I've been wanting to try out my gift for so long! I'm hyped! Here goes!"

You took a deep breath, and extended your right arm outward with an open palm. You concentrated harder than you ever have before.

Y/N: "Please work! If this fails Kazuma is gonna die and I'm gonna look really stupid!" 

Just then, you felt a heat in your chest, right where your heart is. It was like heartburn, but way more intense. The feeling began to spread all over your body, concentrating in your right arm and giving you shivers all over. Your scars burned. All you needed to do now was develop a technique. 

Y/N: "Alright toad, let's see if you can survive this." 

Your arm felt like it was going to turn to ash. You steadied it with your other hand. 

Y/N: "Flare Blast!" 

A blinding light radiated from your hand, and in an instant an explosive blast of fire burst forth from your palm. You were unable to control it, with your arm being engulfed in flames. The concussive force of the blast knocked you back onto the ground, and you hit your head hard. The blast traveled until it reached Kazuma's toad, which was completely incinerated, and didn't stop until it hit a gigantic rock and exploded in a torrent of fire. 

When the smoke cleared, there was a wide path of scorched grass, a smoking toad corpse, and a boulder with a very large molten crater in it. There was also Y/N, who was unable to move on the ground. 

Kazuma: "Holy shit! You could do that this whole time and you didn't tell me? You're a walking missile strike!" 

Y/N: "I already told you, I didn't know I could do that! But holy shit that was awesome! HAHA!" 

Kazuma: "With power like that on our side, no way we're not defeating the devil king at this rate! Also, you can get up now. You're gonna get eaten." 

Y/N: "Actually, I can't. I think I used too much mana." 

Kazuma: "So you're telling me you can only use your explosive death beam once before you can't move? That's pointless! You're useless!"

Y/N: "Wow, that switch up is actually crazy. I'll just have to control it better, dude. It's no problem. I hope."
