Chapter 7: Nothing Was The Same

A/N: Long boy chapter incoming. Consider this your warning.

Over the days of training set in place by Kazuma, you and Megumin had made a daily routine out of going to the castle every day to cast explosion. No matter what else the day had in store for you, you two always managed to find your way to the castle for enough time to blow it sky high. 

Megumin: "Explosion!"

Y/N: "Incineration Blast!"

On sunny days you went to blow up the castle.

Megumin: "Explosion!"

Y/N: "Incineration Blast!"

On rainy days you went to blow up the castle.

Megumin: "-plosion!"

Y/N: "-neration Blast!"

On early wake up days you went to blow up the castle. 

Megumin: "-osion!"

Y/N: "-tion Blast!" yawn 

On boring days you went to blow up the castle.

Megumin: "-ion!"

Y/N: "-Blast!"

On days where you didn't really want to go blow up the castle, you went to blow up the castle.

Megumin: "-n!"

Y/N: "I'm too tired." 

Basically, the walk with Megumin to the castle to blow up the castle was now a part of your life, whether you liked it or not. Even worse was the walk back from the castle, where you were already tired but still had to carry a limp Megumin all the way back to town. 

Megumin: "Explosion!"

Y/N: "That one was probably like a 40. You didn't put your back into it that time."

Megumin: "What does that even mean?"

Y/N: "Watch and learn."

You flipped your scarf as you approached the cliff overlooking the castle. 

Y/N: "Incineration Blast!"

Megumin: "25."

Y/N: "You did that out of spite!"

Megumin: "You weren't concentrating! You have to concentrate, remember?" 

Y/N: "You're hopeless."

You two had come up with a scoring convention for each other's signature attack. Based off many factors, like explosion size, shockwave quality, how it looked artistically, the sound it made, and more, you could score each other for the day. The quality came and went for both of you, but the constant onslaught from the two most destructive people in Axel had done a number on the castle over time. 

Today was a good day for both of you. 

Megumin: "Explosion!"

Y/N: "Not bad at all. The blast was loud and super big, but it lacked a bit of substance. I mean, the shockwave wasn't that apparent, when I can usually feel it easily. Other than that, probably one of your best. 75." 

Megumin: "Really? Thank you!"

Y/N: "Now sit back and I'll show you how you make an explosion."

At first you had doubted the quality of your training with Megumin, but over time the results were easily seen. Slowly but surely, your blast had become less dispersed and more precise, which of course resulted in a larger explosion. The damage you dealt to yourself was also becoming less and less, though it was definitely still present. These results were what you had scouted her for in the first place, so the progress made you very happy.
