Marcus noticed the street lights were on, realizing he was 2 miles from home. "Ah, shit , I gotta dash, my mom's gonna kill me. See you, cuzzo!" he exclaimed, then ran out the door.
"See you, Uncle Vincent," Marcus shouted as he hurried out.
Uncle Vincent said to Samuel, "Yeah, I saw Marcus down here. He just left a few minutes ago. Don't worry, he's on his way home."
Vincent, seeing Marcus dash outside and take flight, decided to run faster on foot. Marcus's dad called Vincent, inquiring if he had seen Marcus down there. Despite their disagreements, Vincent vouched for Marcus.
Marcus talked about his project with enthusiasm, explaining the details about the historic Native American tribes like the Shawnee, Wyandotte, and Delaware. He highlighted their lifestyles, cultural traditions, and significant historical events. After finishing his presentation, he turned in the printed evidence to the teacher in the morning, feeling confident about his work.
Sounds like Marcus had a tough week with suspension and then 4 days of ISS. Being stuck in a room with Deshawn, his bully, and a mix of different stereotypes must have been intense. Deshawn was reading a book by Booker T. Washington, and even though they both stared at each other with hate, it was clear they were both bored out of their minds.
Mr. Mason, the detention teacher, had strict rules: no talking and writing "I will behave and will obey my teachers' rules" 200 times. While everyone else took all day to finish, Marcus and Deshawn were writing fast. Marcus, trying to make it seem like he was doing something, was dozing off with a book in front of him. At the end of the day, it was off to JV football practice.
