Chandra's POV

The feeling of hands moving through my hair woke me up. I wasn't big on people touching my hair. It didn't matter who it was and I prepared myself to sit up and cuss Kai out, but as my eyes opened everything that happened came back to me. I sat up in a rush and found that my head had been on Paige's lap. I looked at the dried tears on her face.

"Hey," she said. "I don't know how long we'll be here so-" I reached up and felt that Paige had braided my hair in cornrows. My mom had taught her how to do it when we were younger after Paige had begged her.

"Really?" I asked and then grabbed my throat because it felt dry.

"I know how you are about your hair." She reached over to a side table and grabbed a glass of water. "You're probably going to feel weak because they gave you wolfbane." She held the glass and helped me drink until it was empty. The water felt cool going down my throat. When I was done, she put the glass down and I slumped against her because she was right. I did feel weak.

"Did they give you wolfbane?" I asked and looked around. I expected to find us in a cell or something, but we were in a scarcely decorated room. The bed we were on had a sheet and nothing else, but the mattress was soft.

"No. They knocked me out. I thought maybe they thought I wasn't supposed to be with you, but then I woke up on the bed with you."

"Why wouldn't they just leave you?"

"Probably because I could tell them who grabbed you," she said.

I pushed myself up so that I could look at her. "Who was it?"

"That Omega," she said with a scoff.

"Omega? Katie?" I gasped.

"Yeah. I should have killed the bitch when she tried to rape you."

"Why would she kidnap us?"

"I don't know. I've been awake for hours, but no one's come in here. I only knew they gave you Wolfbane because I started freaking out about you not waking up and Athena said she couldn't reach Imara. It's the only thing that would put your wolf to sleep."

"She must still be asleep cause I can't reach her," I groaned.

"We have to figure out how to get out of here because I'm sure whoever took us wants to mark you and I don't think it's Katie."

"Why does my life have to suck?" I sat up fully and looked around again. "Okay, so they were smart enough to not put us in a room with windows. Do you think the door is locked?"

"Probably. I searched the room while you were out and they took anything we could use as a weapon. Even the bathroom is clear."

"Maybe I should have let my dad train me," I mussed.

"Wouldn't make a difference with Imara being out," she stated.

"Thanks for that."

"For now we have to wait and see if someone comes in. Maybe we can figure out a schedule or something."

"But what if whoever comes in takes you out and then marks me?"

"I'm not letting that happen. I will die before I let that happen to you."

"You're not dying for me."

Paige didn't say anything for a minute. "Why don't I just mark you?"

"What?"

"You don't want me to die defending you and I don't want you to be claimed by just anyone. So, unless some Alpha walks in here and you feel a mate pull to him, I mark you and make you mine. Plus, I think I'll make a pretty good Queen."

"I can't stand you," I laugh and sit back against the headboard.

"I'm serious."

"Oh, I know," I said. I knew that Paige would do anything to make sure that I was okay. The same way I would do anything for her. If it meant taking her as my mate to be sure that we would be okay, so be it. "Okay, if I don't feel anything for any Alpha that walks in here I'll give you a signal and you mark me real quick before they can separate us."

"And when we get out of here we can try to convince Troy and Kai to be in a polyamorous relationship with us."

"Are we even going to want them after we're mated?"

"Probably not, but Troy's really good in bed and we'll need to have little princes and princesses."

"That is true."

We stilled and Paige grabbed my hand when we heard a sound at the door. A key jingled and then the door knob turned and the door pushed open. I gritted my teeth together when Katie walked in with a tray. She shut the door behind her and walked over to the bed.

"Glad you're awake," she said as she placed the tray on the bed. "Don't worry, it's not drugged. We only did that so we could get you here. The Alpha wants you in perfect condition, Luna."

"What Alpha?"

"Alpha Domink. He was the Alpha of a medium-sized pack and then he was overthrown and became a rogue."

"Why are you doing this?"

She hesitated for a minute and then shrugged her shoulders. "I've been in love with Kai-"

"Alpha Kai," Paige growled.

Katie rolled her eyes. "I've been in love with him for ten years. His mother made me his Omega when I was sixteen and he was always so nice to me. When I turned eighteen I thought he would claim me, but he didn't. I stopped going to the Balls. He even let me stay in the suite when I had my heat."

"Did he touch you?" I asked through clenched teeth. She had a smirk on her face as she looked at me, but I could tell that she was lying. He probably locked her in the suite and slept somewhere else.

"I was sure that he was going to claim me after he got to know me better, but then he came back with you."

"You're pathetic," Paige said.

"What?"

"You're. Pathetic," she said each word slowly. "She-wolves don't get a say in who their mate is. We wait for someone to claim us and we accept it. You're stupid to set your eyes on a specific wolf when there's no guarantee that he'll choose you. Then you turn around and break the biggest rule, betraying your Alpha. Why? Cause he didn't claim you? Pathetic."

"I'm pathetic? You got beat by an Omega. You're pathetic. The only reason you're here is because the Rogue Beta wants you and believe me, that's not a compliment. After you meet him, you're going to wish Beta Troy killed you like he did the others." She turned and stomped out of the room.

Paige looked at me and rolled her eyes at the smile on my face. "What?"

"Nothing. It's just usually me standing up for you. I'm proud of you."

"Please. I wanted to do more when I caught her in your room, but I assumed it was your heat. Who knew she was a jealous, petty bitch."

"I should have known," I sighed. Paige looked at me in question. "I saw the way she looked at Kai and then the way she looked at me when I walked in the room. I even confronted her. Guess she didn't like that."

"When did you confront her?"

"I don't even know what time or day it is anymore, but it was after I talked to you after my heat."

Paige nodded and reached for the tray of food. "I don't think your little talk had anything to do with it. She's probably been planning this for a minute."

"When did you start acting all Beta-like?"

"Your heat." She pulled the tray over to us. "Let's eat and build our strength so we can get out of here."

I was hesitant even though Katie said the food was clean, but my stomach hurt with how badly I needed to eat. I didn't know if I should take the word of someone dumb enough to go against their Alpha, but I didn't have a choice so Paige and I ate everything on the tray.
