Chandra's POV
Returning back to school after being locked away for a week was a surreal moment. Not only did I have to deal with Valerie following us around, I had to deal with everyone staring at us. I did not do well with being the center of attention and I couldn't wait for all of the staring to die down.
"I honestly can't wait to get home," Paige murmured beside me. We were in our wolf history class, bored while the teacher droned on. "I can't take all of the staring."
"You already think of the packhouse as home?" I asked surprised.
"I mean, yeah. Why wouldn't I?"
We heard a chuckle behind us. I glanced over my shoulder at Candace laughing and glancing over at her friend. "I wouldn't get too comfortable," she laughed. "I'm actually surprised that you made it this far, but it works out better for me."
"What are you talking about?" Paige asked.
"We have a bet on how long it'll be before you kick the bucket. I'm giving you a month, so don't disappoint. I plan on you making me a very rich girl," she cackled.
I couldn't stop the growl that grew in my chest and escaped. I couldn't control Imara in that moment if I wanted to. I could feel my eyes change as she pushed her way forward and fur began to sprout on my arms as I gripped my desk.
"Dra?" Paige called in a panicked voice.
The door burst open and Valerie and a man I didn't recognize barged in. I could see everything happening around me, but I could do nothing to stop it. It was taking everything in me to hold Imara back.
"Luna!" Valerie called out.
"Get everyone out of here," I growled. My voice held a hint of command and I could hear feet scampering across the floor. Soon the room was empty and only Paige, Valerie, and the man remained. Everyone was gone just in time for Imara to force the shift.
"Chandra, what the hell happened?" Paige asked after I had shifted into Imara's blue wolf.
Imara padded over to Paige and rubbed up against her.
Imara wanted to kill Candace and I couldn't stop her. I spoke through the mindlink. I included Valerie into the link. I couldn't include the guy because I didn't know who he was.
"Well, Luna, I don't know what she did to upset you, but I'm glad you didn't kill her," Valerie said. "Mikey, run to the office and get something for Luna to change into."
The man, Mikey, quickly left the classroom.
"Why on Earth would you try to kill her?"
She threatened my Beta, Imara linked simply.
"Imara," Paige sighed. "She didn't threaten me. She was just being Candace as usual."
"What did this girl say?" Valerie asked intrigued.
"She said that there is a running bet on how long it will be before I die," Paige shook her head. "Clearly I know what's going on, so it didn't bother me. Imara, you didn't have to go all Luna on her ass."
Serves her right. Maybe now she'll know not to mess with you.
"Or it will make her want to mess with me more," Paige pointed out.
Doubt it. If she knows what's good for her she'll stay away from you.
Paige ran her hand along Imara's fur and the cheeky wolf purred. Oh shut up, she linked me.
Valerie moved to the door and returned with clothes in her hands. We were not allowed to just randomly shift in school, but sometimes it happened. So, they kept spare clothes on campus in case of an emergency, and this was definitely an emergency.
