Richie looks at Heng, raising an eyebrow. 'Heng, a ring isn't enough evidence for the police to go after Becky. What the hell is going on?'
They all sat in the living room, unsure of their next move.
Heng stared at Becky, his gaze unwavering. 'You're right. It isn't. But they have more.'
'More what?' Freen asked, panicking.
'An eyewitness.'
'They are lying,' Richie defended immediately.
'Why aren't they checking the witness's credibility instead of going after Becky blindly?' Freen snapped.
'They did,' Heng said, finally shifting his gaze from Becky to Freen. 'In fact, I went there myself and talked to him.'
'And?'
'He's telling the truth.'
'How is that possible? Becky didn't do it,' Freen hissed.
'Why aren't you saying anything?' Richie asked, looking at Becky, who had been silent the whole time.
Heng turned back to Becky, his stare intense. She felt herself shrink in her seat. 'Exactly,' Heng said, stepping forward. 'Why aren't you saying anything, Becky?'
'What do you want me to say?' Becky replied, her voice shaky.
'The truth.'
He took a step closer with each word. 'The witness places you exactly where his car was abandoned. He also says the conversation was heated and that you punched him in the face.'
Becky felt like she was being interrogated, and she sensed herself giving in.
The silence stretched, making everyone anxious.
Becky sighed and looked away. 'It's true. All of that is true, but I walked away. I got in my car and drove straight back to our apartment. I didn't kidnap anyone.' She turned to Freen, her gaze pleading.
'Why didn't you tell us?' Richie said, anger creeping into his tone.
Becky furrowed her brows, clenching her hands together in frustration.
Freen gently placed a hand over hers. 'Becky?' she asked softly.
'Even without all that, you were ready to accuse me. You both were. So how was I supposed to tell you?' Becky shot back.
'Well, you should have,' Richie spat.
'What difference would it have made?' she growled in response.
Her hands trembled. She abruptly stood, her face flushed with anger. 'He is out for blood. Mine, to be exact. He won't stop until he can bring me down.'
Everyone flinched at her sudden outburst.
'That's not helping,' Richie sighed.
'Can you all just calm down?' Nam pleaded, trying to ease the tension.
'Heng?' Becky called quietly. 'Do you believe me?'
'Of course, I do, Becky.'
Becky visibly relaxed at his answer. She took Freen's hands and intertwined them with hers; understanding passed between them.
'Why don't we all settle in for tonight?' Nam suggested, getting up. 'I have prepared everyone's room following Heng's instructions. It is his house, after all. So off you go.' She gestured for everyone to leave.
****************
'I'm really sorry for not telling you,' Becky said, holding Freen in her arms.
Freen turned to her, offering a tender smile. 'It's okay. I understand.'
Silence settled again, neither finding sleep.
'Are you okay?' Becky asked again.
'Yes,' Freen sighed, raising her brown eyes to find Becky. 'I'm fine as long as I'm with you. I love you, Becky.'
'I love you too,' Becky replied, holding Freen tightly.
Becky would not let anyone take her family away. She finally had people who loved her, and she loved them back. No matter what she had to do, she wouldn't hesitate anymore. That night, she decided to put an end to all of this.

Freen opened her eyes and stretched, arching her back. As she settled back into the sheets, she sighed and tried to snuggle up to the person beside her, surprised to find the side empty.
Had Becky woken up before her? Freen thought, dragging herself out of bed.
'There you are. Even Lyra is up, sleepyhead,' Nam chuckled, teasing Freen as she walked down the stairs.
Freen took a seat beside Richie at the dining table.
'Where is your fiancée?' Nam asked, handing her a cup of hot coffee.
Freen took it but looked at Nam with confusion.
'What?' Nam asked, equally puzzled.
'Isn't she here?' Freen scanned the room.
'No, she didn't come down,' Nam said, suddenly alarming everyone.
'She is not upstairs either,' Freen gasped.
'Guys!!' Heng yelled, rushing into the living room. 'The car is gone. Becky left.' He breathed heavily.
'Left where?'
'This note was outside. It's addressed to you, Freen.' He handed her the note.
Freen's hands shook as she reached for it.
'I'm not going to let him toy with my life anymore. He wants to play? I'm going to bring the game right to him. I'm sorry I have to do this. But trust me, I will come back to you. I love you all.'
