Freen thinks she knows where Becky might be, and she doesn’t wait for anyone; she just leaves. As she gets closer to the porch of Becky’s old house, she hears footsteps coming from the woods. She looks over and sees Sunny walking toward her, holding a gun aimed right at her.
Oh no.
She raises her hands slightly, startled by the sudden threat.
"Glad to see you home, Freen," he says with a wicked grin. His gaze falls on her pregnant belly. "Oh no. Please don’t tell me that’s Saint’s."
Freen feels the urge to defend herself. "No!"
"So it’s Becky’s, then? You two move fast." He looks at her with malice.
"You need to listen to me now. Do what I say or I’ll pull this trigger. I don’t care if you’re having her child, do you hear me?" he warns.
She nods, scared for her safety.
"I need you to..." he starts, then stops when he hears a car coming.
The man quickly grabs Freen by the arm, gun still pointed at her.
"Don’t make a sound," he says as he pulls her to the side of the house to hide.
Freen does as he says. They crouch around the corner near the greenhouse and peer at the approaching car.
Freen knows it’s Becky. This is bad. She wouldn’t want Becky in this situation.
The man smirks and decides to come out of hiding, but Freen pulls on his arm to stop him.
"What are you doing?" she asks.
"I’m not here for you, remember? My deal is with her." He raises an eyebrow.
Becky freezes when she sees Freen held at gunpoint.
"What the hell are you doing?" Becky raises her hands to show she means no harm, her heart racing for the woman she loves. "What do you want?"
Freen shakes her head gently, urging Becky to stay calm.
He demands their phones and jabs them into his pocket.
"Now get in the house. I want a drink." He pushes Freen toward the door.
Once inside the living room, he pulls a cable from his back pocket. "You!" he points at Becky with the gun. "Tie her hands behind her back."
Becky nods hesitantly, takes the cable, and approaches Freen carefully.
Freen brings her hands to the back as she sits in a chair. Becky ties Freen's hands but leaves them a bit loose. She subtly rubs Freen's palms for comfort. Freen returns the gesture by rubbing Becky’s knuckles.
"TIGHTER!" he shouts when he sees the cable isn’t tight enough.
"It’s tight already!" Becky yells back.
"Move aside." He waves Becky away with the gun and pulls on the cable around Freen's wrists.
Freen lets out a short yelp of pain. Becky nearly wants to punch the guy for that but holds herself back; now isn’t the time.
"Now you and I are going to talk.” He gestures at Becky. Freen shoots a panicked look at Becky.
"Did you kill him?" Becky asks without hesitation.
"I’m just a businessman. I don’t go around killing people."
"What you are is a piece of trash!" Becky bites back.
"If I were you, I’d choose my words wisely."
"Why? Because you hold a gun?" She smirks, pulling out her own gun and pointing it at him.
"Did you think I came unprepared? That I would just let you go? Only one of us is walking out of here alive."
He laughs menacingly. "You have guts, I’ll give you that. But your man was weak. I still don’t get how he managed to get two amazing women like you to fall for him." He smirks. "Do you know why I hired him?
"It wasn’t because he was good in business or charming. It was because he was the only guy who, when he got to Vixen, put his wedding ring on instead of taking it off."
"I liked Saint. He was a great guy when he was here. Good, fun, happy... But little by little, he got consumed by darkness. I guess that’s normal after living a lie for six years. None of that was my fault; it was yours. You turned a good man into a lying scumbag."
Freen sees he’s trying to provoke Becky and make her lose control. "Becky, don’t listen to him. Look at me, please," she pleads.
Becky’s grip on the gun tightens. Her eyes glisten. "He may not have been okay, but I don’t believe you would just let him walk away with the money he stole from you. Tell us the truth. You killed him."
"What if I did? You’re the only reason he was falling apart. You gave him a toxic life, and he went along with it."
"That’s not true," Becky’s voice cracks.
"It’s true he tried to kill himself to escape you; I just helped him along."
"You monster!" Becky growls.
"We are equally guilty."
"Becky, don’t listen to him. He’s trying to get to you." Freen desperately tries to reason, but the look in Becky’s eyes says it all; she is far gone.
He smirks. "Don’t you want to know what happened to your father?"
"That was all me. It took years, small doses, something that built up in your body, killing you bit by bit until it’s lights out," he grins.
"I had it all planned. Once he died, your mentally unstable brother wouldn’t be there to stop me. I would have it all, but you had to come back. You had to take away everything I dreamed of. I won’t let you sit on that empire I built with your dad. If I have to kill you like I killed him, I won’t hesitate." He tilts his head, looking at Freen. "Maybe I will start with her." That was the last straw. A loud shot rings out, and the next moment, he collapses to the floor, clutching his chest.
