“Zhou Cheng…” Chi Tong sounded helpless. “He discovered a talented lead singer in an underground band. He's so amazing that he insisted on poaching him for his debut. He's recently been spending his days squatting on the ground. Zhou Cheng has been even more anxious about his answer than his own manager.”
When Chi Tong said this, everyone in the meeting room burst out laughing. True to form, Zhou Cheng was a kooky character who spoke his mind and took risks.
Luo Ying laughed out loud as well.
She hadn't expected Zhou Cheng to be so assertive not only in defending his boss, but also in seeking teammates. She found it amusing, but it wasn't a bad thing. If the lead singer was really good, her boy band plan would advance even further.
After getting to know each other, Luo Ying discussed the studio's future plans. She would form a boy band and gradually introduce other artists in addition to herself.
The brief meeting came to an end quickly, and everyone began preparing for the afternoon shoot.
Luo Ying returned to her office, and Chi Tong began discussing the few artistes he had recently observed, as well as the three scripts he had prepared.
“These few look very good. We'll sign these two for Zhou Cheng's boy band.” Luo Ying felt that Chi Tong had made good choices. She wanted to sign them all, but the studio's resources were limited, so she could only choose a few “We do have room for one more actor.”
Luo Ying agreed to the contract without hesitation, but she paused when Chi Tong handed over the three scripts.
“Modern Times is an adaptation of a novel. We'll be riding on the popularity of the original, and the production team is mature. However, there have been some disputes about the script on the Internet recently. Some authors claim that the original work was plagiarized and are preparing to sue.” Luo Ying flipped through the first script while Chi Tong brought her up to speed.
“There is a risk.” Luo Ying shook her head. Furthermore, this production team was well-known for creating buzz. She had no idea whether the Internet storm was real or not. She didn't want to get involved in a storm like this.
She flipped open the second script.
“Director Xu gave me this book. Director Xu has been leading his crew for many years, so they respect and trust him. He did, however, learn that Su Ran was also in touch with this script.” Chi Tong had not forgotten about their disagreement.
Su Ran? Luo Ying raised her eyebrows. She also had her eyes on this script?
Luo Ying recalled that there was indeed such a TV series in the original novel. However, Su Ran was already well-known at the time. The popularity of this TV series was expected, but it was not surprising.
“What about the last one?” Luo Ying asked.
She was unconcerned about competing with Su Ran. She was able to win the role last time, so she could do so again. But before making a decision, she wanted to know everything.
Although Su Ran was the female lead in the original novel, she wasn't always given the best scripts. The novel's plot aside, the world continued to function normally.
“This is a small production. The director is a student, and the screenwriter is still in school; the film previously won an award for best foreign short.” When it came to this script, Chi Tong had the most doubts. The production staff was too unfamiliar to be trusted, but this also had its benefits. “It's a young crew, but the script is excellent.”
Luo Ying looked at the name of the script. She did not recognize it.
However, the script was the thickest of the three. To demonstrate their sincerity, they had sent nearly half of the script over.
Luo Ying couldn't possibly finish it in a single sitting, but she was completely captivated by the script and story. It was a fantastic political thriller.
“Wait, both of them intend to broadcast during the summer break next year?” Luo Ying examined the filming plans written in the two documents and realized immediately that something was wrong.
“Yes, both of them are period dramas. They will almost certainly compete in terms of schedules.” Chi Tong said sharply. He'd also heard that the two production teams had a long history of feuding. From casting to broadcast, they were at odds.
Luo Ying's slender fingers tapped on the third script.
Things were starting to get interesting. Chi Tong stated that these two dramas would compete for the same time slot. However, in Luo Ying's memory, Su Ran's drama was a huge success. The third drama was most likely a flop. Not only would it have lost, but it was also very likely that the drama was never completed.
Then, in a plot that took place beyond the original novel, how did Su Ran win the arena this time?
“It appears that I won't be able to avoid Su Ran this time.” Luo Ying muttered softly, but her eyes sparkled with delight.t.
Choosing the former meant competing in casting with Su Ran. Choosing the latter was to compete against her production.
Was this the power of the plot? She was destined to be Su Ran's villainess!
