“I just bought a small bouquet of flowers and asked her to give me a baby’s breath with a lily. How could she survive in this business?” The auntie waved her hand. “I would speak up for her if I couldn’t stand it, watching it and we eventually got to know each other.”

Lu Zhao heaved a sigh of relief.

“Our days are pretty peaceful. Occasionally, a difficult customer turns up, but usually end up turning them away. There’s nothing particularly exciting about our daily going-ons. She doesn’t like to talk about herself. I didn’t know she had such an experience.” The auntie told him about her and Bian Su’s past. They were all ordinary trifles.

“Then do you recall the time when she was making plans to leave here?” Luo Ying asked.

“The day before yesterday, the day before yesterday.” The auntie replied, “She left in a hurry the day before yesterday and stuffed this into my hands. She told me to take good care of it. I made sure to keep it safe!”

Lu Zhao’s heart clenched up. “Did she leave with anyone?”

“No,” the auntie said with a strange expression. “She left on her own. I even drove her to the high-speed rail station.”

Lu Zhao probed for more information, but the auntie offered nothing out of the ordinary in response. Lu Zhao’s mother did not appear to be under particularly close watch.

“Thank you, I truly appreciate it.” Lu Zhao nodded, and he finally eased up.

Before Luo Ying left, she was about to buy some things from the auntie, but she was quickly waved off. “You obviously won’t make use of them. It’ll be a waste! There’s no need to buy them. The flowers that Bian Su gave me are already enough!”

As a last resort, Lu Zhao had to ask his secretary to discreetly deliver a gift card to the aunt.

“I wish you a prosperous business!” Luo Ying waved at the auntie.

Luo Ying and Lu Zhao walked down the road toward the coastline after leaving the supermarket.

“She managed to make a life for herself here..” Luo Ying hugged Lu Zhao’s waist and comforted him. “She also left on her own. You can rest easy.”

“Yes, it’s much better than I imagined.” Lu Zhao heaved a sigh of relief. “It looks like she wasn’t monitored or coerced to this location. Perhaps I angered Old Master Lu some time ago, so he sent someone to look for my mother… That was why she was forced to leave. I was impulsive.”

They strolled down to the sandy beach. As dusk settled in, there were fewer people to be found on the beach.

Luo Ying sat down and took off her high heels, letting the waves wash over her feet.

“Lu Zhao, no one will blame you.” Luo Ying comforted him. Lu Zhao had already done enough.

“Tell me.” As she gazed out at the vast ocean, a question popped into her head. “If she left on her own, does that mean that Old Master Lu still doesn’t know that she left? Perhaps his spies won’t be able to locate her so quickly?”

It was a long way from home. Not even Old Master Lu could get his influence to this area very quickly.

“You’re right.” Lu Zhao’s eyes darkened.

Lu Zhao’s persistent interference within the Lu family was making Old Master Lu uneasy. With an obedient heir in place, Old Master Lu hoped to live out his golden years in comfort.

However, Lu Zhao was destined to dominate the entire Lu family. He would not allow Old Master Lu to manipulate him.

“Now is the time for me to truly fight him.” Lu Zhao, too, cast his gaze out to sea. The night sky seemed to loom over the ocean, adding an eerie quality to the scene.

A storm was coming. Luo Ying knew what Lu Zhao planned to do, and she was going to stand by Lu Zhao’s side.

At night, they took the last flight back home.

After such a long trip, Luo Ying’s body was numbed with exhaustion. She fell asleep leaning against the car window even before they left the airport.

Lu Zhao shifted so she could lean against him more easily. He was too young at the time to be a reliable protector for his mother. Today, though, he would track down his mom and defend the woman he cared about.

As Lu Zhao stared up at the stars, his mind raced with ideas.

Luo Ying had to walk the red carpet at a film festival the following day, so she got up early to get ready.

“I’ll send you there.” Lu Zhao had prepared a simple breakfast. He could never forget what happened the last time around with the anemia. He had to give Luo Ying a proper breakfast no matter how early it was.

“No need. I’m walking the red carpet with my brother today,” Luo Ying said as she cut the egg.

“Jin Shi?” Lu Zhao thought for a moment and said.

“That’s right.” Luo Ying nodded. Suddenly, she remembered that there was something that she had not told Lu Zhao clearly.. “By the way, when you initiated that divorce back then, were you and Brother in on it together to deceive me?”
