Marjorie had been sat staring out of the window for ages now. It had felt like days, maybe even years. The day before, she had received the note in her locker from this mysterious Aunt Muk person, and it was all she could think about. As her mind drifted away on its little sailboat, grasping for her imagination, she could hear the clicking of Autumn's mouse and the tapping of her fingers on the keyboard.
"Autumn, do you know anyone who goes by the nickname of Aunt Muk?"
Autumn's eyes widened as her heart sped up and was pounding against her ribcage. So she had found the note.
"No. No, I do not."
"Hmm, well, I found a note in my locker yesterday saying it was from someone called Aunt Muk. Here, take a look."
Marjorie handed Autumn the folded piece of lined paper, and the woman read it as if she had never seen it before. Of course she didn’t actually read it, she simply stared at it and recited it in her head off by heart.
“Sounds like someone has found out about me and Reece, and has taken the chance to shoot their shot. Absolutely no clue who it is though.”
“Mm.”
“Anyway, would you mind taking this invoice to Chef, I need to prepare some forms for someone who wants to enrol their child.”
“Sure.”
Autumn strolled out of the office and made her way down to the kitchen. She could feel herself blushing as she made her way down the corridor. Marjorie had found the note and read it. Simply thinking about it made Autumn’s heart skip a beat. She walked into the kitchen and gave the invoice to a very stressed, very annoyed Chef. As she walked back to her desk she noticed Marjorie rummaging around in her bottom desk drawer, the sight of her making Autumn go bright red.
She ran to the bathroom putting her hand to the side of her face to hide her blush, only to open the door and find Carly bunking her shift by sitting on the floor and scrolling on her phone.
“Oh crap uhm… hi Autumn.” Carly said, a sheepish grin spreading across her face.
“Carly get back to work, you aren’t being paid to sit around and do nothing.”
“Autumn, I barely get paid anyway! I’m on minimum wage for an apprentice!”
“Yes but you're still being paid, get back to work.”
Autumn realised that she was no longer hiding her face, but could still feel that her cheeks were pink. She rushed out to the carpark, quickly sending Marjorie a message that she was going on lunch. She was so busy panicking and trying to calm down, that she completely forgot about the little poem she had left in Majorie’s bottom drawer. It was around 5 minutes later that she remembered, and realised that earlier, Marjorie was rummaging around in her bottom drawer.
“Shit.”
meanwhile in the office
Marjorie really needed to get these forms prepared, but there was a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach that she couldn’t quite name. She shook it off and reached into the bottom drawer of her desk, feeling around for the papers, but instead could only find a small sheet of lined paper that had been written on. As she unfolded it, about a million thoughts came rushing through her head at once.
