CHAPTER-13: a promise

ANIKA POV

Why is he back in my life?

Why if he does something to harm my Ram

Or...or he att ked my family

No!No!

This can't be happening. I once again looked at my phone screen-

'Hello little bird! I hope you missed your father. Now listen here and listen very carefully, I will call you at sharp 7:00 pm and when I call you I expect you to answer you phone. I hope you will not make your father angry little birdy.'

I felt my breathing getting heavier and my hands were shaking until I felt a warm strong hand wrapped around my shoulder. I don't even need to turn around to guess who this person is.

" Calm down my love. Why are you scared? You know that your Ram will be their for you, right" he said kissing my neck and embracing me tightly.

I couldn't utter a words but his presence made me feel secured and protected.

He is my protector

" Now will you tell me what made you this anxious all of a sudden. You were perfectly fine earlier" I didn't said anything to him thankfully he didn't see the message that my father has send me. I can't drag Ram in this mess, I know what all my father can do and what he is capable of doing.

" I..it...it's no...nothing. I wa...was think... ing abou....about the the attack" I said hugging my phone to my chest and turned around in his arms.

" Ra.. Ram aap...aap hume......bacha...bacha lenge na"
(Ram...you will save me)

" Why are you talking like this Mahi and I love you jaana. Mai tumhare liye jaan de bhi sakta hun aur kisiki jaan le bhi sakta hun" I could feel the truth and seriousness in his voice. I signed while keeping my head on his chest.
( I can die for you and I can kill for you )

Whole day passed in a blink of an eye and I didn't even realise when the clock striked 7 in the evening. All the youngsters were sitting at the backyard laughing and sharing our embarrassing moment. I was smuggling with my Ram in a cozy shawl.

My eyes widen when I saw ' PRIVATE NUMBER' flashed on my phone screen. I excused myself but I could feel Ram's heated gaze on my back. I was sweating profusely. I was contemplating my options but before I could answer the call someone snatched my phone

RAM!!!

VIKRAM POV

I don't know what's actually caught up to her but she has been acting weird all day. She is extra clingy not that I'm complaining but Mahi isn't someone who does PDA but today she is snuggling with me on her own.

She is behaving as if she is scared of something and we could be under attack any moment.

I noticed how she moved away from me excusing herself when her phone vibrated. I couldn't brush off the feeling how she went stiff in my arms. I couldn't move my eyes from her until I saw her figure disappearing.

" Excuse me" I said and picked up my phone moving in same direction.

I saw my jaana standing at the extreme corner with her back turned towards me. Her form was shaking and she was sweating. Her phone was ringing non-stop and she was getting restless with each passing second. When I saw that she was about to swipe to answer the call I snatched her phone

RAM!!!!

" Shhhh....." I placed my index finger on my lips to tell her to remain quiet.

I swiped up to answer the call and put the call on loud speaker. I gesture her to start talking, she looked terrified but none the less she started talking

" Hel....hello. ghani khamma baba sa"

" Hmm, chalo sanskar toh thik seekhaye the Teri maa sa ne tujhe chori. Ab meri baat dhayan se sun, mai tujhe lene bhej raha hun kisiko aur behtar hoga agar tu Bina kisi natak kiye uske saath wapas gaon aa jaye. Samjhi warna Mai Teri khal kheech lunga......aur haan apne maa ke gharwalo ko kuch bhi batane ki zarurat nhi hai bas chup chap chali aana, samjhi?"
(Hmm, atleast your mother has taught you some etiquette. Now listen to me carefully, I will be sending someone to bring you back and better you will behave and come back without showing any tantrums or I will skin you alive.....and make sure that you'll not tell anything to your mother's family)

What the fuck

" Ji....ji baba sa" she said while looking into my eyes

" Suna hai bahat par nikal aaye hai tere, iss baar aise katunga ki dobara udne ki sochegi bhi nhi. Teri maa toh mere kisi kaam ki nikli hi nhi lekin tu mere liye ek sone ka anda Dene wali murgi nikli."
He said with sick laughter. Is he really her real father? How could he say such mean things to her?
As soon as he hung up the call I couldn't help but pull Mahi towards me while holding her shoulders in a strong grip
( I've heard that you've become a free bird now a days I will make sure to chop off your wings this time too. Your mother was useless but you will be my golden hen)

" When were you planning to tell me about your father returning back into your life. Tell me? Are you out of your mind that you've thought that you can single handedly defeat him.....listen to me you little girl and listen to me real good, If I felt that you are putting yourself in trouble like this ever again then the consequences will be very hurtful. AM.I.CLEAR?" I was so angry with her right now

" Cry....crysta....crystal" was all she could manage before she crashed in my arms and started crying painfully.

I warpped my arms around her and picked her in my arms moving towards my chamber. I placed her on our bed carefully when I felt her drifting off due to mental tiredness.

I will make everything alright my jaana and this time you will live your life without any fear or dread.
