Love is blind

Castiel was born in the fires of the divine. He was forged in lightning, tempered in hurricanes and horror. He was a weapon, a being designed to strike fear into the hearts of men and their kind. Castiel was ancient, older than words and time itself. He had walked among gods, killed some, even. He was power, in it's personification, caged in a body that just barely clung on. Castiel, in a rage, could not be contained or chained. Castiel was larger than life, than existence itself. Castiel was fierce. He was a warrior, and he was terrifying.
But Cas.
Cas was kind. He was gentle, so loving and careful of others. He knew his limits, and was constantly adjusting to the comfort of the humans in his presence. Cas was cute; all fresh hope and breathless wonder, with eyes like a cartoon lamb. So Castiel may have been greater. But Cas was stronger.
When the angels saw the human side of Cas, they scorned, as many do, because they did not understand. The very things they saw as weaknesses - compassion, mercy, kindness, love - were greater strengths than they would ever know.
So no, Castiel was not broken. He was evolving, changing into something better, unique even.
But love, as many will tell you, can be a curse. Just look at Hazel and Augustus, Achilles and Patroclus, Tris and Tobias. Sometimes love can be powerful enough that it tears you apart, and brings everyone down with you.
Sometimes love makes you blind to the knife at your back. Worse, sometimes love makes you welcome the knife. rather you then the one you love, right?
At least, that was what Cas thought as the blade pierced his heart.

So, um. this is awkward. I'm sorry I didn't update sooner! I only jut realised that I've got like 950 reads (which is freaking insane, by the way) and had a moment of oHMYGOD I HAVENT UPDATED SINCE THE JURASSIC PERIOD CRAP THEYRE GONNA HATE ME. so here's a short(ish) chapter as a condolence. The more reads/votes I get, the more likely I'll update the next chapter.
