Wren found himself wandering through the streets of a larger town a few miles away from his village.
He had been walking for days without food or water yet he was still alive, and had stumbled across this town. In desperate need for food and water he made his way through the town.
Wren continued down the streets. He stuck out like a sore thumb, the old robe he found didn't help much, after all he had horns- a horn.. and weird bent back legs with large talons that made clacks on the concrete floor.
The burns on his feet still hadn't healed and every time he moved they seemed to start bleeding so he left bloody footprints. He was an alien in this strange sea of gluttony and hate. Exhausted he kept walking, keeping close to the buildings glancing at the stalls every now and then. His eyes were focused roughly ahead of him, but it was difficult with the overwhelming feeling of numbness and the need to just.
Die.
It ate at his sanity. Wren's eyes skimmed the stalls again as he was about to look away he had to do a double take eyes widening. Was that a Truth'Seeker?..
She was about Wren's age at the time. Her hair was a sort of muted red or pink it was curly and fell slightly in front of her face. Her horns dipped in and up, stripped with a bright pink and cyan. Chains were curled around her horns. Her pupils were a bright pink leaning towards red. Her fur was a muted purple. She only had one set of arms. Her seeking eye was shut.
She was wearing a white long sleeve shirt, blacksmiths apron and black trousers.
She still had her tail it was the same muted purple that faded into the same pink her eyes were, there was a white frill around it like an axolotl's.
Wren hurriedly walked towards the stall, accidentally bumping into a few people that shouted at him with words that burned or words he didn't want to know. Wren held the counter of the stall as someone pushed him aside as they kept walking, he was now stood in front of the girl, he tried a smile but she just looked a little disturbed. But then she caught a glimpse of his wounds and hurriedly pulled him into the blacksmiths and sat him on a bench.
She was much taller than him, but then again Wren was quite short for his age.
"HI!! I'm Nova!" She smiled bending down to Wren's level holding out her hand to Wren who was still pretty dazed.
Wren watched her gasp and pull her hand back as the hood of his robe fell revealing his broken horn, Wren expected the reaction that followed.
Nova ran out the room. But to Wren's shock she returned with a cup of water and medical supplies.
She offered the water to Wren who took it without a second thought and downed it. Nova laughed at how fast he took the water but that slowly turned to concern.
"So.. are you alright- no- stupid of course you're not. Why would I ask that you're clearly hurt!" Nova hissed to herself. She held Wren's hands as he slowly began to shake as tears fell down his face.
"It hurts.. please, make— it stop," wren cried as a searing pain consumed his left arm. Nova hugged him, Wren's gut twisted as he felt a gash on his chest open.
"Stop. You're hurting me" Wren gasped, She promptly let go and started apologising."So uhh what's your name?"
"Wren,"
"So Wren, where are you from?"Wrong choice of words, Wren's eyes widened as he bit back tears.
"Oh— no, no I'm sorry.. Wren?"
"Hmm?"
"Can I clean your wounds?"
"Okay.."
Wren wearily held out one of his arms and scrunched his eyes shut, he felt Nova roll up his sleeve and gasp and the sigh.
Wren heard her rummage in the medical bag and set it aside. She pressed something on his cuts and gnashes, carefully avoiding the burns. It stung a bit but Wren didn't pull his arm away."Other arm?" Nova asked Wren still had his eyes scrunched shut arm held stiffly in front of him.
He snapped out of his day dream and relaxed his arm pushing his other arm (left) towards Nova.
This arm was much worse, it was the one Wren had bitten when he.. there were burns lining the whole outer side.
(I don't know what to call it?) They were still bleeding and the skin was flaking off.Wren listened to Nova gasp and the tap of hee feet as she ran to get something. Wincing Wren felt her press a damp cloth to his burns, then she bandaged his arm.
Wren opened his eyes to see to see Nova inspecting her work.
"That should do it!" Nova said tilting her head.
"Hopefully.." She added less optimistically. Then there were footsteps. A flash of something crossed Nova's face, maybe fear.
To Wren it was all a blur, he remembered being shoved behind some machinery as the footsteps came closer, they were heavy and loud. Shouting, he heard shouting and a lot of it, why would they be shouting at Nova?
"YOU USELESS—!! I PAID GOOD FUCKING MONEY TO KEEP YOU ALIVE!"
Wren heard Nova try to protest but there was a loud crack noise and a loud thud. He watched in utter horror as he saw Nova hit the ground.
She didn't get up.
"You wasted your time doing god knows what instead of working and you botched up the weapons!!" The person shouted again. He peaked around the machinery and regretted it as he saw the man stamp on Nova's tail, she screamed and tried to pull her tail away.
This was.. horrible, Wren decided the moment he was strong enough he would save Nova from this hell before it consumed her like his.
