The night after their beach gathering, Vivienne found herself replaying the events in her mind—the bonfire, meeting the pack, and Leah's invitation for a date. Everything seemed to be falling into place, and for the first time in a while, she felt a sense of belonging. The thought of Leah filled her with warmth, and she fell asleep with a contented smile on her face.

The next day, school felt like an eternity. Vivienne couldn't focus on her classes, her thoughts constantly drifting to Leah and their upcoming date. She kept glancing at the clock, willing the minutes to pass faster.

When the final bell rang, Vivienne practically bolted out of the classroom, eager to meet Leah. They had planned to walk home together, but when Vivienne reached the front of the school, Leah was nowhere to be seen. Puzzled, Vivienne pulled out her phone to check for any messages.

Before she could unlock it, a cold voice interrupted her thoughts. "Looking for someone, Vivienne?"

She spun around, startled. A tall, pale man with strikingly red eyes stood before her, his lips twisted into a sinister smile. Vivienne's heart skipped a beat as she recognized the unnatural beauty that could only belong to a vampire.

"W-who are you?" Vivienne stammered, taking a step back. Her instincts screamed at her to run, but her feet were rooted to the spot.

The vampire's smile widened, revealing sharp, glistening teeth. "The name's James. And you, my dear, are in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Vivienne's mind raced. She had heard the pack talk about vampires, but she never expected to encounter one on her own. Her fear was quickly turning into panic. Where was Leah? Where was anyone?

Before she could react, James moved with blinding speed, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her close. "Don't worry," he whispered into her ear, his breath chilling against her skin. "I won't kill you. Yet."

Just then, a low growl echoed through the parking lot. Vivienne turned her head slightly and saw Embry, now in his wolf form, standing at the edge of the school grounds. His massive frame was tense, every muscle ready to spring. His eyes were locked on James, filled with pure rage.

Within seconds, other members of the pack appeared, surrounding them. Leah was there, her face contorted in anger, as she quickly phased into her wolf form. The air was thick with tension, the wolves snarling as they closed in on the vampire.

James chuckled, but his grip on Vivienne didn't loosen. "Well, this is an unexpected treat," he sneered. "I've heard about the Quileute wolves, but I didn't think I'd get to meet so many of you at once."

Embry growled louder, taking a step forward, his eyes fixed on the vampire's hand gripping Vivienne's arm. Leah, now fully transformed, snapped her jaws, inching closer, her focus solely on Vivienne's safety.

Vivienne's fear reached a breaking point, and with a burst of adrenaline, she yanked her arm free from James's grasp and stumbled back. The pack moved instantly, launching themselves at the vampire in a coordinated attack.

The scene turned into a chaotic blur—growls, snarls, and the sound of flesh meeting flesh as the wolves fought to subdue James. Vivienne could hardly keep track of who was who, but she knew one thing: she needed to get out of there.

She turned and ran, her heart pounding in her chest. The sounds of the battle faded as she sprinted away from the school, her feet carrying her to safety. She didn't stop until she reached the edge of the forest, where she collapsed against a tree, gasping for breath.

Moments later, Leah appeared, back in her human form, and rushed to her side. "Vivienne, are you okay?" she asked, her voice thick with worry.

Vivienne nodded, though tears streamed down her face. "I-I didn't know what to do. He just... appeared out of nowhere."
