⚊ chapter two

"Bultaoreune fire"

The loud, energetic beats of BTS’s "Fire" blasted through my room, yanking me out of a dream I can’t even remember now. I groaned, reaching blindly for my alarm clock, desperately trying to make the noise stop.

When I finally managed to hit the right button, the room fell into blissful silence again—though the lively energy of the song still lingered in the air, buzzing through my veins.

“Sunoo, wake up! It’s time for school!” Dahyun’s voice rang out from the hallway, clear and insistent as always.

No escaping that tone—it meant business.

I sighed, rubbing my eyes as I sat up. My room, bathed in yellow and sunshine, was already glowing with the morning light streaming through the curtains. I loved how bright it was in here, especially when the sun hit just right.

It made everything feel warm and happy, even on a Monday.

I stumbled over to the window, pulling the blinds open all the way, letting the full force of the morning light flood in. The sky was clear, a perfect blue, and I couldn’t help but smile as I looked out.

My thoughts wandered to Jung Kiara—what was she planning today?

That girl never seemed to run out of ideas to try and win me over. I shook my head, a small chuckle escaping my lips. Whatever it was, I was sure it would be… something.

I headed to the bathroom, the morning routine practically on autopilot by now.

As I washed up, I secured a headband to keep my fringes out of my face, catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror. The headband made me look a little goofy, but I didn’t mind. It was practical. Plus, it kept my hair out of the way while I brushed my teeth.

Through the walls, I could hear Dahyun trying to wake up our little sister, Sunhee. Or as we all called her, Sunny.

“Sunny, come on, you’ve got to get up!” Dahyun was using her best older sister voice—firm but gentle, the kind that usually worked.

“Just five more minutes, unnie, please!” Sunny’s whiny protest was muffled, but it made me smile.

She was adorable, even when she was being stubborn.

Sunny was one of my absolute favorite people in the world. She was the princess, the light of our family—sweet, innocent, and endlessly endearing. It wasn’t just me, though; everyone who met her seemed to fall for her charm. Even my friends, especially Ni-ki, had a soft spot for her.

But no matter how much I liked Ni-ki, anyone who even thought about hurting Sunny would have to deal with me first.

That was a non-negotiable.

Once I was done freshening up, I headed downstairs to the kitchen, where the familiar sounds of laughter and clinking dishes greeted me. I rolled my eyes as I walked in, spotting Ni-ki and Jungwon already sitting at the table, looking far too comfortable for this early in the morning.

“Seriously? You guys are here this early?” I groaned, but I couldn’t help the smile tugging at my lips.

It was hard to stay annoyed with them for long.

“We were in the neighborhood,” Ni-ki said with a smirk, clearly pleased with himself. “Besides, where else would we be?”

“Mi casa es tu casa,” Jungwon added with a wink.

I hadn’t even sat down yet when I heard the sound of footsteps rushing down the stairs. Sunhee appeared at the entrance to the kitchen, her eyes going wide as they landed on Heeseung, who had just walked in with Jake, followed by a very sleepy-looking Sunghoon and Jay.
