chapter three

I woke up on Tuesday feeling a surge of excitement bubbling inside me, like a fizzy soda that had just been shaken.

As I brushed my hair, I carefully tied it up with my favorite pink bow, the one that matched my cheerful mood perfectly. Looking at my reflection, I gave myself a confident wink, my eyes sparkling with the possibilities of the day.

“Today’s the day,” I whispered, feeling my heart flutter with anticipation like a thousand tiny butterflies had taken flight inside me.

The moment I stepped into school, the usual hum of the hallways felt different—like everything was tinted with a rosy hue. I could barely contain my enthusiasm, each step feeling lighter than the last.

As I rounded the corner, I spotted my friends—Karina, Giselle, and Ningning—already waiting by my locker. Their faces lit up as they saw me approaching, their curiosity practically shining through their eyes.

“Are you really going to do something every day this week?” Giselle asked, her mischievous grin making her eyes twinkle with excitement.

“Of course!” I replied with a giggle, pulling out a small envelope from my bag.

I had folded it neatly, with a tiny heart doodled in the corner.

Dear Sunoo,

I hope you have the best day today! Remember to keep smiling because your smile always makes everything brighter. Just wanted to send you a little bit of sunshine to start your morning. 😊

Take care, and see you around!

With love, Kiara 🌸

It was a simple note—just a sweet message wishing Sunoo a good day—but it held all the warmth and affection I felt for him.

“I’m going to slip this into his locker,” I told them, grinning as I held up the envelope like it was a treasure map leading to the biggest adventure.

Karina, ever the practical one, just shook her head with that familiar look of fondness. “You never give up, do you?” she asked, though I could hear the pride in her voice.

“Why would I?” I said, beaming at her, my heart practically glowing. “The chase is half the fun!”

As I turned towards Sunoo’s locker, a few of my classmates noticed the envelope in my hand.

Sarah, a girl from my history class, caught my eye and smiled brightly. “Is that for Sunoo?” she asked, her voice full of curiosity.

I nodded, feeling a blush creep up my cheeks, but I didn’t mind. “Yep! Just a little something to brighten his day.”

Sarah giggled, giving me a thumbs-up. “Good luck, Kiara! You’re so brave.”

“Thanks, Sarah!” I replied, my smile widening as warmth spread through my chest.

Her words felt like a little boost of confidence, adding more sparkle to my already bright day.

As I continued towards Sunoo’s locker, a few more classmates noticed me. Jenny, who sat behind me in math, waved as she passed by.

“Go get him, Kiara!” she cheered, her voice filled with encouragement.

I laughed and waved back, feeling a surge of happiness. “I’m trying!”

When I finally reached Sunoo’s locker, I could feel the eyes of a few more classmates on me. They whispered to each other, but their words weren’t filled with judgment or teasing.
