Mixed signals

Vivianne put away her phone and sat on her couch. The overthinking started hitting her badly. She started feeling the panic attack taking over her. She took her phone again and called Jill.

Ji: "Hey Viv, you ok?"
V: "No, I am not."
Ji: "What happened?? Are you injured??"
V: "No, no Jill."
Ji: "Is it a panic attack Viv?"
V: "Yes."

Viv started hyperventilating.

Ji: "Ok Viv, please listen to me. Sit somewhere comfy and drink some water please. If needed take an ice cube and place it in the back of your neck."

Meanwhile Jill texted Katie and Lotte. "If you are home please go to Viv. She is having a panic attack and needs help."

V: "Jill? Please, can you talk to me?
Ji: "I am here Viv, want to discuss about my day so far here in Germany?"
V: "Ja. Talk to me please."
Ji: "So, today is an ice cold day here, I woke up early and went to the coffee shop in front of my house to buy some coffee. I was freezing Viv, you couldn't stand so much cold. Then I got back and made some breakfast. Want to tell you exactly what I made?"
V: "Aha."
Ji: "I had some eggs in the fridge so I made an omelette and put some cheese and bacon in. Not so healthy I know, but we are typically still on holidays so don't judge Miedema."

Suddenly the bell rung.

V: "Jill, wait a second someone is at the door.
Ji: "I know Viv, don't be mad at me for this. Ok?  I got really worried and I am too far away."

Viv opens the door and saw Katie and Lotte. She smiled and felt a little relieved to see her best friends. Katie took Viv's phone.

K: "Hey Jill we are here don't worry, Viv want to keep Jill on speaker?"
V: Ja, I need to talk to all three of you I think.

Katie put Jill on speaker. They all sat at Viv's couch.

Lo: What happened Viv? What caused the panic attack?
V: I slept over Beth's house yesterday. Everything felt fine, more than fine to be honest, until this morning.
Ji: "What happened today that was different than yesterday?"
V: Yesterday we had some dinner and then we watched a movie together. Then I couldn't make my self comfortable so Beth put a pillow on her legs and suggested to lay on her practically. So I did, after a while I fell asleep. Beth started caressing my hair and later on she fell asleep too.
K: That's cute Viv. Keep going.
V: In the morning we woke up like this. Beth ordered breakfast, the food arrived, she asked me where I wanted to eat and we went to the kitchen. So, I came close to her, to ask her if she needed help, she turned around unexpectedly and we came too close. Face to face. I starred at her and she got completely frozen. Then everything went completely awkward.
Lo: What happened that made you feel that way?
V: She went completely silent. She didn't even look at me once. So after we had our breakfast I suggested to leave. She didn't try to stop me. It was clear that she didn't want me there. I don't know what I did wrong. I ruined everything.

Viv's panic started kicking again.

K: First of all Viv, you didn't do anything wrong. Get this out of your mind.
Ji: "Katie is right. You didn't do anything wrong. It sounds to me that Beth panicked for some reason."
Lo: Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Beth changed her behavior when you got too close to her. Right?
V: Ja.
K: But the night before you were close, too. She caressed your hair. You slept on her. Why panic the day after because you got accidentally too close?
Ji: "Maybe Beth thought you were about to kiss her?"
