Chapter 5
Chris' POV
I thought it will be a bleeding accident. I thought I will be the one who's gonna save her. But I'm wrong. This time, I wasn't her super hero. I don't understand why she's running away from me. Now, as I was watching the catch-me-when-I-fall scene, I don't know what to feel. I take back the hand that I used to reach her since she wasn't able to hold it. I jump to the floor where she landed. And was disturbed by the fact that they were still staring at each other. Rolph said something to her and I don't know why Zyra got that unusual reaction printed on her face. I interrupted their staring contest by asking Zyra if she's okay, but she just nodded without taking the amazed look on her face. I tried to act as if I was having a hard cough but they were still staring at each other.
I try to make my way to be in between the two of them and I succeeded because I caught their attention. "Oh! I'm sorry. Were you telling something Chris?"
"Too late. Never mind. It's now or never. Do you still want to help me with my design?" I immediately told her my point of coming here while her attention is still on me.
"Of course! I'd be very happy to help you!"
Finally I got that look on her face! A look of happiness and anticipation. I tapped Rolph's shoulder and asked him why he's here and Zyra asked the same thing but he just smiled at us. He tapped my shoulder and tapped Zyra's head.
"I'll be going now. Take care of each other."
What was he saying? I can't understand what's happening to him lately. I can barely see him in our building during class hours. We're not even classmates anymore. Sometimes I wonder if he has a problem that he didn't share to the group. I want to ask him in person of his personal issues why he's been like this since the first day, but every time I do, his treatment of sending me and my friends away really carved a sadness in my being. I guess he needs a friend.
My thoughts were interrupted by Zyra as she grabbed my I.D. Sling.
"Where's your mini-sword?" Her eyebrows curled & reached each other.
"I took it off." I replied with my usual none-of-your-business look.
"But why? Don't you know it's a lucky charm for the both of us? No wonder why all of these accidents are happening to me whenever you're around, because you took it off!" She began screaming at me and I can tell that she's really mad.
"I took it off because I suddenly felt this negative vibes whenever our swords will be inches closer to each other. I don't like the feeling I get whenever I'm wearing it, so I took it off." I explained to her a cover-up story, but the real reason is that I don't want her to believe to such non-sense stories about this 'destiny thing'. I don't want her to expect that we can be together one day. I can sense that her classmates are shifting us, so I was taking the risk to terminate that kind of idea because I have no time for relationships. Besides, my heart is already taken for a long time already. I'm not ready give it up just for this mini-sword thingy.
She was disappointed of the fact and I can feel it. I hope she can also feel that I'm not supporting our tandem. I'm not yet ready to give her my rejection but I guess, by being together frequently, especially now that she'll be helping me with my design, will finally give her the hints that I'm not allowing my heart to love anyone besides Sherry.
This is the first day for us to work on my design. I explained to her what will be my planned concept. She then gave me her ideas of supporting and criticizing my work. I was quite encouraged by her proposal of changing my design to her proposed design because her concept is actually a very nice one. I never knew she also has this creative mind. Why didn't she take same course as mine if she has ideas as awesome as these?
